I was charged 20 bucks to have my running light bulb changed when I first moved here. Then I needed new brakes. This was the issue. I went to another shop, which I go there now after I went into pepboys for an oil change, asked if I had an appointment and was given an attitude about not having one they lost my business. The second you give me an attitude for no reason, and I did nothing but say no, and not in a mean response, you lose my business. Anyway, I had to have something replaced and it involved taking the wheel off. He( at another shop) asked me who did my breaks. I said pepboys in cicero. He then told me that the break pads were not tight. He took me out and showed me- this was before he had actually taken the tire off. At this point, it's pointless to bring it up to pepboys now. Had they charged me not 20 bucks for a lightbulb, not given me a nasty attitude and made sure things were correct, especially with someone's vehicle, I wouldn't be giving them 1 star. I hope for them they at least hire nicer guys, and ones who make sure lug nuts, or break pads are not loose. Also, I can go down the road and get a break light( if it's easy to pop out and not a hassle) for under 10 bucks. 20 is a little ridiculous, especially if I could have easily changed it out myself, but was a little unsure or confident in doing so. They have a nice store and lots to buy for your vehicle. I'd give that 3 stars. They still get 1 star for...
Read moreIf you're 300 miles away from home visiting and you want to get scammed with a starter replacement then check out this haunt. On 11/27/21, I came in asking if they could change the starter in my Honda pilot. This was a new experience for me since I've done EVERY REPAIR my vehicles have needed since 1977. I don't take my vehicle in for anything except inspections and still do my own oil changes. Having just troubleshot the issue I knew it was the starter and I knew what the job looked like. I came in with my own starter that I just purchased in order to eliminate that potential glitch. Mistake. The first thing they say is "we stopped making repairs with customer parts". A second rep got off the phone and said "that one requires REMOVING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD". Rep 1 repeated the ridiculous lie and proceeded to tally up an estimate. I was "looking at" approx. $750!!!!! That didn't include the tow which although advertised on their front window, is actually a third party (read more markup and ripoff). I left with the shirt on my back and in 2hrs, my daughter, grandson and I towed the vehicle to their yard and changed the starter in freezing weather. I was looking for some genuine help and found scammers instead. AVOID PEPBOYS CICERO, NY for anything you can do yourself!! Very sad first experience...
Read moreCalled Pep Boys on a Saturday and was pleasantly suprised that they had availability to get my daighters car in recently the ABS/Trasction control lites were on and we self diagnosed as drive side front wheel bearing which we told the service advisor. They call later with an estimate which seemed high they did not go into detail and my daughter was just releived it could be fixed as she relies on her car for her job. We picked up after hours and reviewing the bill first noticed a $49.99 charge for a lifetime warranty that was not discussed or approved. Then the amount billed for the part was $263 for a bearing. After googling the part (ranges from $40-$90) i called Pop Boys part the next day and asked what the price was for that part and they said $103 so obviously over charged for what reason I do not know. There was a $140 diagnosis charge which I can live with even though we informed them what the problem was ni big deal I'm guessing they do not want to rely on the customer and change a wrong part. Overall satisifed with the work and timliness but disappointed with the excessive...
