I want to take this time and thank the Southside maternity team and the AMAZING staff for all your hard work and dedication to my wife and baby. We came to the hospital numerous times prior to coming in for a schedule induction. All the staff was very friendly and comforting to us. As many new parents are we were very concerned when we were told to go to the hospital by our doctors. Every time we came in the staff treated us like family. Dr Reuben and Dr McKenna are two amazing Doctors. Every time Dr Reuben came in my wife smiled and her blood pressure dropped, she had high blood pressure so she relaxed my wife. Dr Reuben is by far my favorite Doctor and she’s truly a remarkable person. To say I love her is a understatement. Dr McKenna is a god of a Doctor, he made giving birth a pleasurable experience. Rouva was our first nurse when we were admitted. She was there everytime my wife needed something and answered all of our questions. She made sure my wife was comfortable and was very attentive. When her shift ended I was so nervous getting a new nurse. The new nurse that was assigned to us was Irene. Irene is a one of a kind person. She touched our hearts in ways we will never forget. She really went beyond above and beyond for my wife. She treated my wife as if she was a queen. She taught us so much as new parents and we couldn’t have been happier having Irene there for the birth of our child. We are so thankful for everything Irene did for us and without a doubt we want Irene being there for our next child birth in a few years. Barbara was also so so amazing. She made my wife smile and laugh and danced when the baby was born. She was sweet and kind and very informative of everything we needed to know. My wife was on magnesium sulfate so we were moved to another room for 24 hours. Joanna was our new nurse and what an amazing job she did. She’s the true definition of a nurse. She was extremely attentive and made sure my wife got everything she needed. Not once did we have to come out to her and ask for something. She was on top of everything and made sure our time there was A+. Every time she came in she smiled and she was super professional. She brought us upstairs where she had me push the baby chime button which was one of my favorite parts of our stay. She handed us off to Nurse Holly. Nurse Holly was extremely accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. She helped my wife numerous times throughout the night getting changed and cleaning up. She was truly a remarkable nurse. Wendi the feeding specialist helped us understand the importance of breastfeeding and gave us a phenomenal education. We had no clue how important it was to breastfeed let alone all the tricks and pointers on how to get the baby to latch on. Susan came in later that day to set my wife up on a electric breast feeding pump. She taught us so much about the pump. She gave us one heck of a education ! Our last day we had nurse Ginger. She was super friendly and did everything in her power to ease our stress. Our baby had to go into light therapy so we were a little down about this. She was very comforting and made numerous phone calls to get us updates on our baby’s test results. Andrea in the nursery was awesome. She helped us every time we came in to feed our baby. We went into the nursery where nurse Maureen assisted us. She is amazing to say the least. She has the patience of a saint !! She guided us with all the essential information we needed for taking our baby home. She showed me how to bath my baby and how to dry the baby after bathing. Overall the nursing staff in the baby unit is A+++++++. We’ve been to the Good Samaritan baby unit for friends and South Side baby unit is far more superior. Thank you to the entire nursing staff, all the residents and doctors that helped deliver our baby. Thank you for making our first child birth experience one to never forget. We will make sure all our friends go to the South Side team !! We look forward to coming back for next baby. ...
Read moreIF YOU CAN AVOID IT DO NOT CONE HERE! I was taken to Southside Hospital yesterday. I had an attack from a genetic disorder that causes acute pain in the abdomen. Enough so that it makes me cry out. I had gone to the doctor just to check on an infection, however because even most medical people are unfamiliar with this condition they panicked and called an ambulance. I told them it would pass if they let me rest. I was taken to the hospital. I was still groaning when they brought me through the door. I was very briefly triaged and then taken to one of the emergency room beds.
At that point the ambulance drivers dropped me off and put a blanket over me. I had said to them please let someone know that I had an overly full bladder that caused the pain to worsen. However, after the ambulance drivers put a blanket over me and left, I was completely ignored. My bladder was getting worse, and I lay in a ball in the corner of my bed with a blanket thrown on me. No one in the whole emergency room came to see why there was a person under a blanket in the corner curled up in a ball and moaning. Finally the pain eased enough so that I was able to get to the edge of my bed and try to make it to the bathroom. Someone, not a nurse, but a volunteer perhaps, saw me and came over quickly with a wheelchair to take me over. She told me to ring when done. I did so, and no one came.
I waited, letting the pain recede until I was able to use my cane to walk out. (I had to wonder at the fact that no one even came to use the bathroom during that time) when I got to the hallway I found in my bed has been moved out by the desk. At this point no one had even taken my blood pressure my temperature or spoken to me except the woman with the wheel chair.
This is where things get really weird. As I sat there still no one speaking to me, I turn to a man behind a desk and said “Can you tell me where the front door is?” I wanted to know in case my daughter had to come if I was going to be stuck there. The man behind the desk heard me and kept shaking his head no and saying “I don’t know why there’s noise on my computer” I asked three times. This had now gotten so surreal that I had no idea what to do.
I was feeling much better but as no one had checked me in there was no one to check me out. Finally I simply got up and begin to walk out when someone, came rushing up to ask me what I was doing. I said to her that I had not been seen to at all, and I was feeling better and I was leaving. Her attitude was incredibly obnoxious considering the circumstance. She said “ Why don’t you wait for a doctor to check you out?” I asked if the doctor was actually coming and she turned and walked away.
I continued on my way out and was stopped by another person who asked much more politely where I was going. I said to her “I’m feeling better No one has checked on me since I arrived, and you all are not equipped at this hospital to treat the condition I have because no one is familiar with it“. I said this very gently and called a cab.
After I got home I received a phone call from one of the offices asking for my insurance information, I asked why she needed it since I was not treated in the emergency room. She said she would talk to her supervisor and they would call me back. They never did. Then today I received a call from billing. I was told the record said I refused care. No, actually, I...
Read moreI always heard that Southside Hospital was horrible ! Well after I had a cardio catherization at Peconic Hospital in Riverhead, NY my cardiologist says you have two arteries that are completely blocked ! I knew I needed a bypass because he couldn’t get thru. He said I’m going to send you to Southside Hospital to get a double bypass ! Aaahhhhh ! I cringed at the thought ! I’ve had my cardiologist for almost 20 years when I had my first two stents and I trust him with my life. I’ve told my family everytime he did surgery on me that God Forbid if something happens and I don’t make it no one better sue my doctor ! To me he’s the best and I don’t care how good you are at what you do, sooner or later something ain’t gonna go right ! Society loves to put the blame on someone for a human error ! I personally don’t think that is the right thing to do because whom ever is doing a job they have accidents ! Don’t get me wrong if the person is totally negligent like being under the influence of alcohol, drugs or what ever then that’s another ballgame ! I asked my Doc are you doing the surgery and he said no ! Now that made me think a second ! I said who’s gonna do it ? He said Tim don’t worry this guy is my Colleague and he’s very, very good at what he does ! I said ok but Southside ? Is that place ok ? He goes yes it’s really good ! That’s all I needed ! A few days I go to SouthSide Hospital to meetthe surgeon Dr.Kalimi ! What I nice guy and I meet a person it don’t take me more than 5 minutes to tell what kind of person they are ! The man is one of the top most confident, relaxed, caring and cool mannered person I’ve met ! If you don’t have a repore with your doctor I suggest you get a new doctor. Besides that, every single person I ran across in that hospital in the last three visits were the nicest people I’ve met in any hospital of been in my life so far ! The place is clean, from what I saw appeared to be remodeled and the security was all over. The first thing that amazed me was that they have Valet Parking for everybody and it’s FREE !!!! That saves you a lot of money ! All the young kids working their butts off to take and get your car are so polite and nice it will probably shock you because most people aren’t like that ! I was shocked because me personally I believe in taking care of people who perform a service to you to make it easy for you ! Now you know they are lucky if they’re getting minimum wage which personally I think stinks ! I appreciate what they do and plus it’s free anyway so I always give them a $5 dollar tip ! And believe me I have no money. I’m on SS Disability and a measly $1100 a month pension and I can’t work ! Make them kids feel like they are appreciated ! That’s the #1 thing I would ask any of you who read my story ! I go for my bypass in about 10 days so I’ll fill you in on how it went unless of course “The Man Upstairs” decides he needs me up there more than down here ! Stay Healthy Everyone And You Won’t Be In My Position ! Sincerely,...
