Dishonest business that lacks integrity and respect.
Brought our Toyota in for a transmission recall that exceeded the coverage date. Service did not follow service bulletin, “we don’t need to” and charged over $4,000, skipping steps outlined for repair.
Car brought back when we noticed items were skipped on the repair, as well as loose bolts, a hanging protective cover, software not updated, magnets not installed. Told that they do not follow service bulletins but would fix the issues, update the software and install the transmission pan magnets.
Car returned with on-going ratting noise from engine area when accelerating. Noticed that the car was possibly leaking fluid. Did not trust work at Penn Toyota so brought car to our mechanic who noted transmission fluid under the engine, confirmed rattling noise and a leak in the vicinity of transfer case. Recommended to come back to follow up to check the leak.
Brought back to Penn Toyota for fluid leak and rattling noise. No rattling when Toyota test drove the car the next day. Told the transfer case was leaking oil and denied it was related to their work. (See Rav4 forums, damaged transfer case happens in this scenario, it gets damaged in the repair process if not repaired properly.)
Brought the Rav4 back to my mechanic for inspection and follow up on leak. Confirmed transfer case leak said to return to Toyota or transmission shop.
Brought to transmission shop (since Toyota would not admit fault) who said the transfer case is leaking from the repair at Penn Toyota. They said to contact Toyota Corporate to resolve.
Called corporate who said we would get a call back from Penn in “one business day" to resolve the issue. Multiple calls to corporate to escalate with Penn, who they contacted. Never received a call back from Penn. Ultimately told dealers are independent.
Reported to BBB, still no reply from Penn Toyota.
At this point, tried to resolve: directly with Penn, through corporate and via BBB.
Car taken to two mechanics – neither will repair – both say this is due to Toyota’s negligence; transmission/transfer case is damaged by Toyota and that for 4K+ transmission should have been rebuilt and repaired properly.
At this point, we are in need of a new car due to Toyota’s negligence, lack of responsibility or ownership of their error and their dishonest and cowardly leadership. We tried numerous times to have this addressed only to be told they would “put in a good word” if we wanted to buy a new car.
Zero stars would be too high of a rating. Our family has purchased multiple cars from this dealership, never again. Bring your car to service here with your eyes open and check your repairs. This dealership lacks pride in their work, their service and lacks any sense of respect or dignity in treatment of...
Read moreI am writing this review to share my unfortunate experience with Penn Toyota and to advise prospective car buyers to exercise caution. I purchased a Toyota RAV4 from this dealership on July 13th, and what followed was the worst investment experience I have ever encountered. Shortly after the purchase, I discovered that the car was infested with bugs. They were crawling on the seats, ceiling, and even inside the lights. Despite immediately returning the vehicle on July 23rd to the dealership and presenting clear evidence of the infestation to the consultant who sold me the vehicle, and who personally witnessed the bugs, the dealership failed to acknowledge the problem. The dealership documented the return as related to mechanical issues that were pending at the time of purchase, which did not address the infestation. The car was kept for two weeks without any communication from the dealership regarding its status. My attempts to reach out for updates were met with silence. When I visited the dealership in person, I was given the runaround and eventually directed to the Service Manager, who noted the presence of debris and flies inside the vent but did not offer a satisfactory resolution. My interactions with Chris Mignano, the General Sales Manager, were particularly disappointing. His condescending and dismissive attitude only compounded my frustration. Although he promised that I would receive full credit if the bugs returned, the infestation reappeared the day after I picked up the car on August 7th. Additionally, the vehicle smelled strongly of chemicals, and the dashboard, passenger door, and rear light ceiling were damaged. When I sought further assistance, I encountered dismissive attitudes and unhelpful responses. On August 12th, I returned the car to the dealership. The Sales Manager conducted a brief inspection but did not address the infestation or offer a satisfactory resolution, such as a loaner vehicle, while the problem was rectified. Instead, I was informed that only a trade-in option was available, which depreciated the vehicle's value compared to the original purchase price. Chris Mignano stated he would speak to the owner but never followed up with me. Despite further attempts to contact him, my calls were either unanswered or met with excuses. This dealership's lack of professionalism, accountability, and empathy has been profoundly disappointing. I strongly advise potential buyers to carefully consider their options and to be wary of dealing with Penn Toyota. My experience highlights significant concerns about their customer service and integrity. I hope this review helps future clients make informed decisions and avoid the issues I...
Read moreThis is based off my entire experience at Penn Toyota. I bought a used car from Robert B. They did not attach any hidden fees to the online price, which was great, but I do wish the process was a little more transparent. Right now, my partner and I are both in school. I was unsure whether I wanted to pay cash or finance, and I feel like I would have appreciated knowing more about my finance options. Next time, I'll know to put my foot down and inquire more about my options. Robert was open to hearing my concerns about the car though, and did his best to rectify them.
My finance guy (maybe Nick?) was not very nice. I think it was because we met with him at the end of the day and he probably wanted to leave. He was standoffish and I don't think he smiled at us once. I also overpaid by $6 (okay stop laughing, its a matter of principle), but I guess they just keep the extra money?
Again, the used car I bought had an issue that made itself known as I was driving it home for the first time. Robert was very amicable to getting the car looked at by their service department after I said the problem recurred almost every time I drove the car.
Ryan, my service rep, was great. I truly appreciated his friendly demeanor and the "hand-holding" throughout the whole process. Ryan spoke with my partner and even my father at different times and never complained about the inconvenience. I live at least an hour to two hours away, and I had to drive back 3x (with at least $60 in tolls), but I am hoping that the problem is now solved. Next time, I will know to purchase a car closer to home. I've read a lot of reviews about how other service departments or other dealerships kind of brush you off if you have a problem with the car after the sale, and I appreciated how receptive Penn was to trying to make it right.
There were some little things that bugged me a bit. My car came back with more outside scrapes, and the driver's seat (beige leather) also came back a little dirty and had a black scrape on it (most recent time it went into service). They also didn't do all the things I thought they would to inspect a car. They ended up putting on tires, but didn't do an alignment after (the car veers to the left now when it didn't before), which I thought was always done after new tires. That said, I feel grateful with their help so far and someone told me that an alignment isn't always done.
Overall, I am optimistic that the car I bought is now in working order and I can now focus on my studies. For those interested, their lobby area is great for studying (during the week), and I was able to charge my phone while I waited for my car to be serviced.
I will update this...
