Have been here half-dozen times to sell books. The staff is incredibly nice, fast, patient, and attentive. Even when it's jammed with customers/re-sellers, they never lose their cool.
I won't lie and tell you I got a lot of money for what I sold them.
What I can tell you is that they buy stuff no one else is buying. If you don't need the money, consider donating books to a local library (if they will take them), Book Faeries in Freeport or a thrift store,
If you do need extra cash, whatever you get at Bookoff Massapequa is better than nothing.
Books they don't buy: Ones without US barcodes, library discards, ones with lots of handwriting inside or in very bad shape. I was surprised how many books they bought from me.
They have a flat on wheels and collapsible plastic crates you can use to get your books out of your car.
Parking in front or nearby is easy, but easier on weekdays when the Shop Rite isn't jammed. Staff is super fast going through your stuff. The longest I waited for them to go through my books and pay me was just over an hour. And that was for over one hundred books with other resellers in front of me.
They do require photo ID, so if that's an issue for you, this is not the place to sell stuff.
If you have books with a store's price sticker over the publisher's bar code, remove before you bring them to Bookoff. If you have books with marks on them, try to gently remove with a damp paper towel/cloth or Goo Gone, The staff does not tell you this but I figured it out after a couple of trips and was able to sell books later that they initially rejected.
Still have more boxes of books to go through, plus DVD's and CD's, so I will be going back to Bookoff Massapequa very soon.
Thank you...
Read moreOverall, a nice store to visit! If you like books, movies, comics, video games, figures, etc, then this is a great store to visit even if you don’t make a purchase. The employees are polite and helpful. They have great variety and most items are well organized considering the plethora of stuff they have.
The only cons in my opinion are the prices and the value of items paid to you in the buyback program. There are several overpriced items in the store. There are basically no discounts or sales available either. Sometimes an employees way overprices and item and it will sit on the shelf for likely eternity. They also do not pay well for the buyback program. I get that it is a business and they need to make a profit but the payouts are too low.
Overall, it’s still a fun store to visit and spend time in! I do...
Read moreWent here for the first time today. Was going to buy a game of thrones action figure and some pops. Wound up putting half the pops back and the figure because they were so over priced and the boxes were crushed. We brought the items to the register and asked for a discount being that they were damaged and overpriced to begin with. They wouldn’t negotiate and said price is firm. I am a reseller my self and i know how to price collectibles, not that i was going to be reselling those but that i know they didn’t know how to price collectibles. They priced over market value and didn’t take money off for box damages. Definitely dont recommend and wont be going back. Can get cheaper prices on mercari and an at this online seller called pop addict...
