I can only say great things about Ben Bulent of CloseUpPictures! He managed to take outstanding photographs in quite challenging conditions, with limited time available, yet the results are incredibly precise and refined. What I appreciated most was the natural quality that emerges from his shots. Of course, there was post-production work involved, but he succeeded in preserving that sense of authenticity you sometimes find in amateur photos, the kind that gives the image real emotional depth. Some of the poses seem genuinely spontaneous, as if there weren’t even a photographer in front of the subject, and yet the photos are clearly highly professional, not candid snapshots taken by chance. It’s exactly this balance between professionalism and spontaneity that gives his work something extra, without making it feel overproduced or artificial. I worked with Bulent for a surprise engagement photoshoot at the Hoboken pier, and I can honestly say that it was a perfect experience. His work was flawless and professional every step of the way.

Leading up to the event, he was very kind and responsive as we worked together to coordinate the moment to ensure everything went smoothly. I especially appreciated his quick relies and attention to detail as we planned it out.

During the shoot he captured great shots of the actual proposal, we didn’t even notice he was there! Then, once the proposal took place, we spent time taking more pictures at the pier where he had many great ideas for us, while also helping us to act natural and enjoy the moment.

We hired Ben within a few weeks of our daughter’s 2nd birthday this past summer to document the day. He arrived early/on time, stayed a few minutes longer, took the direction we provided in advance (mix of candids and posed) and was open to requests during my daughter’s party. He was very user friendly to work with, had a nice, easygoing personality (which is critical for events, especially when there are a ton of toddlers and parents running around a park on a hot day). We got some nice shots of the day that we can have to remember (and that allowed us to be present vs worry about documenting everything on our phone).
