I would not recommend entrusting your loved ones with White Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. My father was sent there for rehab for what was supposed to be a three or four week stay with the assurance he would likely be home by Thanksgiving 2022 - instead he died while in their care. From the get-go, my sister and I felt that the care for the patients there was very lackadaisical - for example, even when I dropped off clean clothes for my father to wear so he could get out of he hospital robe he was in, which he was desperately anxious to do, it took them over 24 hours and several phone calls for them to get the clothes to him (I understand they have their procedures and they said that they had to wash the clothes themselves as a precaution but that should not take over 24 hours. When I complained to them they said something to the effect that they just have a lot of laundry to get to...). I agree with the review of the gentleman, Glenn, below who advised if your loved one just needs rehab "never send them to facility with a nursing home attached to it" as the nursing staff is not the caliber of the PT and OT staff and the environment is very depressing. While I cannot say with certainty that my father's death was a result of substandard care, I know my father was very unhappy with his treatment there and he spent what would sadly turn out to be the end of his life quite miserable being at White Oaks. I agree with the reviewer, John, below who was a patient at White Oaks (who was, luckily, able to leave) who stated that some of the staff is "surly" and "neglectful" and who stated that it would sometimes take the staff an hour to respond to the call bell. My father complained of the same thing to my sister and me: i.e. that some of the nurses were extremely slow to respond after he pressed the call button (sometimes requiring him to have to press it numerous times) and that some members of the nursing staff were very nasty to him. I actually experienced that myself on one occasion when I called to check on how he was doing and one of the nurses was extremely rude and dismissive and would not put me through to his room (there was no legitimate reason as he was not sleeping, etc.). I insisted and finally got to speak with my father. I voiced our displeasure with that nurse to one of the administrators and requested that she no longer be assigned to my father. My sister and I called the Director of the facility to express some of our concerns and see how they would rectify them and we left her a detailed voice message (we were considering moving him to another facility but were hoping to could fix some of the issues we were dealing with as it was not supposed to be a long stay). However, the director didn't bother to get back to us and our father died just a few days later. He had been very concerned with certain symptoms he was experiencing which they seemed to consistently downplay - it ended up being a forewarning of the condition from which he ultimately passed. When he died, the White Oaks staff rushed my sister and me to call a funeral home to pick up our father's body (he had not stipulated where he wanted his funeral when he entered the facility as he was only supposed to be there a few weeks! We were totally unprepared to find a funeral home the evening he died). However, White Oaks never informed us that they actually could have kept his body overnight while we looked into our options. Ultimately, we paid an exorbitant refrigeration/storage fee and transportation fee for his body when we ultimately decided to go with a different funeral home the next day and had to transfer our fatherâs body again. I hate to be graphic here but these are the realities of these situations. Their failure to let us know that we could have kept our fatherâs body there overnight while we researched the appropriate funeral home was just another failure on their part. PLEASE do your research and find a better facility for...
Read moreJust wanted to say that my dad was sent to a rehab facility from Huntington hospital. Before we decide to send him to a rehab facility I asked the social worker management to let me know what facilities have the better reviews and I was told that white Oaks was 4 out of 5 stars but to my surprise I found out that they are worse than other nursing homes in Long Island. My dad was doing fine for a week and all of the the suden I received a phone call letting me know that he texted positive on the second round of COVID. I was so angry, upset and I told them that they were neglected for not giving him the proper care. A staff member tested positive and thatâs how 14 people were infected. My sister, my mom and my nephew went to see him on December 2nd from his room window and they sow him with a hospital gown , no socks and he was shivering, no one showed up to see him. Two nurses aides passed buy and they did not even bother to go to the room and check his temperature. I donât understand why the nurse told me on that they in the morning over the phone that his temperature was 98.7 and he went for a walk and ate which contradicts what me family saw on that day. I blame myself for not being able to help him or even better not to send him to that place. Now that he is gone they are trying to cover themselves by telling you to call administration to discuss the situation. Thatâs too late , you are not going to bring my dad back. I am hoping that the truths come out and the staff that neglected to take care of my dad pay for their mistake. I want that place to be closed forever. Donât send your loved ones to that place. They did not care about my dad, they called me at 1:01 in the morning. My phone rang once only and I woke up and I check my phone and it was from White Oaks so I called and their answer was â your dad is dead â that was the only thing they said I when I asked if I can go to see him the nurse said to me â I donât know â you canât come. But I insisted And I was able to see him I when I asked if the Doctor was notified her answer was â The Dr. does not work night â so I insisted her that I need to called the doctor she keeps denying him. Finally I spoke with the doctor and I asked him if he was notified of my father death he replied that the nurse called him and that he passed away half hour ago this was around 2:30 in the morning. So you can see that it was a lied my father died at 1:00 according to the nurse. It has been three weeks already since my dad died and my family and I canât erase from our minds the inhumane treatment that my father received from their staff. Our hearts are so much pain that we donât want to know anything...
Read moreMy father was admitted to White Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center facility in October 2023. I was in search of a facility with a locked Dementia Care or Memory Unit for my father who has Dementia.
Upon my arrival to tour White Oaks, I was greeted by Mr. Sheril Mathew who serves as the Concierge for the facility. During the tour, he provided a thorough overview of the facility. He was very patient and went above and beyond to alleviate my concerns regarding long-term care for my father. Since my fatherâs admission, he continues to seek my input and feedback to address any concerns that I may have regarding my fatherâs care. Mr. Mathew is a caring and dedicated professional who is committed to ensuring the highest level of customer service for residents and their families.
Furthermore, I visit my father frequently to advocate on his behalf as needed. I have frequent interactions with the Nursing, Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Maintenance, and Housekeeping staff. My encounters with each of them have proven to be pleasant. For example, Kathy, one of the head nurses, does an excellent job of providing me with timely updates as issues arise regarding my father. Manny (Maintenance) is very conscientious and always strives to keep the the residents' rooms in tip top condition.
Overall, my fatherâs admission into this facility has been a positive experience. The facility is spacious and well maintained. The recent renovations inside White Oaks continue to improve the aesthetics of the facility. In addition, White Oaks Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Centerâs location is a bonus. The scenery is very inviting. The grounds are large and surrounded by trees and a wide variety of birds visit the forage in the area!
In summary, I am comforted by the fact that my father is in a safe environment and receiving a higher level of care that was unavailable to him in a home setting. I highly recommend White Oaks Rehabilitation and...
