I had an appointment with Charles Heating and Plumbing today ( 10-17-2024 )between 11 and 1 PM. Matt showed up right on time. He was very professional and very friendly. After checking my furnace and making sure it was ready for the heating season he showed me what he had done. I had an appointment with Charles Heating and Plumbing yesterday between 9 and 11 AM. Jayson and Rick showed up right on time. They were very professional and very friendly. After checking my furnace and making sure it was ready and ok for air conditioning season they went outside to check the air conditioning unit. They noticed that the outside unit was making a strange noise. Upon investigation it was discovered that the contractor was defective. A new part was immediately installed. Jayson was extremely nice and went above and beyond the call of duty. He explained to me what he was planning on doing to complete the project. After he was finished he showed me what he had done. I had an appointment with Charles Heating and Plumbing on 5-10-24 between 2 and 4 P.M. Brian showed up right on time. He was very professional and very friendly. After checking my hot water heater ( I was not getting any hot water ) Brian decided that the blower motor assembly for my power vent water heater had to be replaced. He explained to me what he was planning on doing to complete the project. After he was finished he showed me what he had done. I had an appointment with Charles Heating and Plumbing on 6-12-24 between 10 and 12 P.M. Dean showed up right on time. He was very professional and very friendly. After checking my furnace Dean found that my UV light was pulling voltage from my air conditioner and furnace. He immediately installed a separate transformer.. He explained to me what he was planning on doing to complete the project. After he was finished he showed me what he had done. He installed a new bathroom faucet in a very short time. He was extremely nice and went above and beyond the call of duty. As I was sifting through my holiday cashe in the basement last night, I noticed a pool of water- the result of a steady stream of water coming from my hot water heater. I did my usual and played Mrs. Fix-It, praying that it was an easy fix. I didn't sleep a wink. I stressed over how we would shower, wash dishes, ect. I worried the drop in temp would freeze the pipes. The sound of the trickling water metaphorically haunted me, even though I was 2 floors above the death of the unit below. I knew there was no easy fix- the unit was toast. But the thought of being without water for days just sent me into a panic. I called Charles at 7am, with a defeated desperation in my voice. I figured they would get someone out tomorrow, or maybe even the next day. The woman on the answering service was the exact opposite of me- calm, collected, reassuring and kind. She took the message and let me know someone would call be back. I realized this problem at 2am. I'm writing this at 1:30pm and you know what I just did? I'm writing this, still wrapped in my towel, because I just took a glorious, steamy hot shower- better than any I've taken in my home in probably the last 6 years. The water didn't get cold...at all, and I didn't have to worry about anyone turning on a faucet or flushing a toilet and...I was incredibly greatful! My distress call, placed at 7am was returned in just 25 minutes and by 8:10am, Paul and Billy were here. I had already assumed I needed a whole new unit, and they confirmed that- quick. I wasn't upset, but I figured that these 50gal monsters weren't just hanging out in the back of a truck, ready to go. I thought it would be a waiting game to track one down and get it here. As I started to make plans to shower elsewhere, they let me know they would be back in 25 minutes with the new unit. We know how it all turned out, because I gave away the ending already. This was truly unbelievable!
About Paul and Billy- Oh man these guys are wonderful! It's gross, cold and wet outside, but they always put on booties when they came in the house (even though I told them not to worry about their shoes). They were polite and courteous the whole (short) time they were here.
As I've mentioned before, I like the trades and I like knowing what things are, why they go where and what they do. I know the last thing any skilled tradesman wants is an annoying fly hanging over their shoulder, asking questions galore, but Paul and Billy didn't gatekeep info. They answered all my questions AND they didn't treat me like a baby, dumbing down answers. I'm so greatful for that, especially because, as I mentioned, I was without my daily shower! While our interactions were informative and professional, we did have a few laughs. They definitely knew, especially in the beginning, that I was stressed beyond belief and they made me feel 100% at ease. I also knew they were busy, but I never felt like they were in a rush to get done and get out.
I'm just, again, blown away at the service I get from Charles. I can't get over how quick this situation was resolved and at a price that I feel is very reasonable. These guys came through and delivered a Christmas miracle and they did it QUICK.
Finally, I have to say I LOVE it when claims turn out to be true, especially because it is so easy for people to lie today. Without a doupt, Charles really ARE 'The nice guys'!

Read moreThis past Monday, June 23rd, my technician Matt H of Charles Heating and Air Conditioning came out to diagnose my Trane AC (Model 4TTB4024E1000AA), which was giving me plenty of cool air, but I was concerned about a new clicking sound I began hearing each time the unit shut off. I even made a video and texted it to Charles so they could show the technician the sound it was making before he got to my house.
My technician, Matt H, told me I eventually needed a new fan motor due to a bearing going on the fan motor. I told him as soon as he diagnosed the problem, I'd like to know what it would cost to order the fan motor and install it...Two days go by, and I never received a phone call or email from Charles Heating and Air Conditioning. I called this past Wednesday at 11:30 am, and spoke to Chelsea, who didn't see anything on my account about ordering a fan motor, but said she would reach out to Matt H and have him call me back.
Now it's Thursday, June 26 and at 3:55 PM I finally get a call from Charles Heating and Air Conditioning, and when I answer the phone, I have someone named Eve asking me about ordering a new AC unit. I explained to her I didn't want to replace my Trane AC but rather order a new fan motor for it. I explained to her I was supposed to hear back from Matt H about what it would cost to replace the fan motor, and again I was told he was gone for the day, but she would deliver the message to him.
Today is Friday and I didn't receive a call all day, so I finally called Charles Heating and Air Conditioning at 4:46 PM. I spoke to Eve again, and she tells me she can have the fan motor ordered but can't give me a price. I told her I won't have them order the fan motor if they can't give me an estimate to install a new fan motor on my Trane AC. Also, my technician Matt H was gone for the weekend. I'm still waiting for that elusive phone call to let me know what it will cost to install a new fan motor.
Bottom line, I'm not happy with Charles Heating and Air Conditioning. It's not a good look for the Nice Guys. I've found this experience with Charles Heating and Air Conditioning highly unprofessional. This coming Monday, if I don't receive a call from Charles about how much it's going to cost me through them to replace my Trane fan motor (Genuine OEM Part # MOT18688), then I'm done using them for my HVAC services.
7/1/25: I never received a call back from my technician Matt H or anyone else at Charles Heating and Air Conditioning.
RECAP: My technician, Matt H, failed to follow up my appointment with estimate to replace fan motor, they tried to sell me a brand new AC and didn't know I was repairing my Trane AC unit, won't give me pricing to replace fan motor part, and I called them multiple times...They're not very organized administratively for this to happen.
