I was in the area and stopped in to buy celery. The outside of the store was poorly lit so it was hard to tell that it was even open. I arrived just before 10pm. I used the restroom which wasn't very clean, but this isn't my issue. I needed to pee so it had to do.
I had 5 items total. When I had arrived in the store, the self check outs were open. I had no cart or basket and was holding everything in my arms. I have arthritis and it's hard to walk far or stand for any length of time.
When I went to check out, there was one check out open (#7), and there were a few people on line, including somebody with many items in his cart. The other people only had a few items like me. There was another employee (young male), that told one lady she could go to register 5. I thought he was just going to take care of a few of us so we could all be on our way. He then asked me if we were together. I told him we weren't, and then he told me he was only taking her. SERIOUSLY!?
Then after he was helping her, two other young men got on line that I believe were employees. Then I noticed he turned on his light. Then, I loudly asked if he was open. One of the young men looked at me so I know I was loud enough. I was ignored, and THAT is the second thing that made me very angry. I was about to leave all my stuff right there and leave. I was THAT angry. But, I needed the damn celery and I didn't have the energy to go to another store.
Thankfully, a woman came out from a door next to the courtesy counter and offered to help me on register 6. I was very appreciative and thanked her for helping me.
This should never have happened. I've worked in customer service for over 20 years. I know how it can be with young kids and these part time jobs, etc. But, it's still unacceptable. If people are going to be treated like this, they're not going to come into the store to shop. That's not good for business. I'm so unsatisfied with my visit last night. I'm...
Read moreRecently, I have moved into the area of Smithtown. I have been going shopping at Stop & Shop for a few months now it’s nice it’s clean the workers are very friendly so I got wind that the Starbucks department was hiring within that store. I quickly went and filled out an application. After filling out the application. I called and spoke to the manager within that department. She assured me that she would call me back on a Tuesday and did not but no worries I kept calling because I need a job and her response was very unprofessional for her to be a manager and she said well she has a lot going on and she wasn’t able to view the application although she did tell me, she would give me a call back which put me under that impression that she was going to view the application and then proceed to call me. She’s also telling me that she needs people more for night shifts and I have a toddler at home so I did assure her that I wouldn’t be able to work most nights but some nights although the workers within the store that I talk to you while I shop tells me they need help during the day if you don’t need help, then you shouldn’t put that you are urgently hiring and if you can’t be professional then maybe you shouldn’t answer calls and speak to people until you learn how to be professional. I hope someone that is nice and helpful. Can you respond back and give me some sort of answers I am a single mother and since being in this new area I do need a job I’ve been a manager I’ve worked in way better job settings, but due to changes in our life I had to make a change in my work because people fall short at times please bear with me and give me an opportunity....
Read moreShopping at this stop n shop used to be such a great experience....however over the course of the last month and a half it has become a total nightmare. The store did a complete 180. There is hardly any merchandise on the shelves, the staffing seems to be inadequate and have low morale. I've given this store the benefit of the doubt by saying to myself that maybe the day I came they were waiting on a shipment...however, after going there different days of the week to find the store in the same condition, it is evident that it is a managerial issue. Speaking as a former store manager of a business myself, I can say that this is quite disappointing. After speaking to multiple staff members and hearing their own griefs about the store...it shows the store is under horrible leadership. I was made aware that the store recently received a new store manager, and that is why the store is in shambles. I was informed by one of the employees that the new store manager doesn't order anything and the trucks that come daily hardly have any merchandise. He went as far as to tell me he checks the manifest sheet and it shows the store Manager doesn't order merchandise daily and he had gotten the position only because he has been with the company 20 years. I am thoroughly disgusted with this place. Why hasn't the district manager done his job as well? There is no way the district manager would allow this to happen if he did his job as well. If stop n shop does not get it together soon they will lose many many more customers to their competitors....which always have...
