My girlfriend and I wanted to avoid the Valentines Day rush so we visited H2O this last Friday night. I was aware of H2Os reputation for an affluent, pretentious clientele, as well as a cold, rather sterile interior and indeed the rumors were true. Unfortunately, the restaurant was literally cold. It was freezing....I guess saving on utility bills. The decor was similar to any pseudo-New England seafood restaurant. The lighting was dim, but romantic. The hostess seated us in between two couples--restaurants need to stop buttressing couples right next to one another, its really annoying and you can't be yourself. The quality of the food is not good enough to warrant a communal experience.
The food is ridiculously average, and the prices are a crime against your wallet. The appetizers were no surprise, but good compared to the preparation of the entrees. My girlfriend ordered the swordfish, and was shocked to find that the couscous was actually the highlight of the meal. My sushi and sashimi platter looked like something that a dung beetle might find appealing. To make matters worse, H2O is run like a factory. We usually take our time whenever we go out for dinner, however everything was brought to our table so quick! It was the fastest night out ever. When we ordered dessert, our server failed to offer us some coffee. I know that other tables probably racked up bigger bills, however if H2O wants to attract even middle class clientele, it needs to act more like a warm inviting restaurant instead of a sterile, pretentious food factory that caters to black AmEX card carriers with high bank accounts.
Expect to pay big bucks for...
Read moreThis is so disappointing to share as I suggested this place to my family for my husband’s 40th birthday. To start, we made reservations but were placed at a random table on the side of the bar with the doors wide open. The dining room was basically empty, and we are experiencing a heat wave. The bartender was managing our table. With a relatively empty restaurant, why is the bartender waiting on us while she has a full bar? For appetizers, we ask her TWICE if the nachos have avocado. It literally says it on the menu but she said twice it didn’t. My brother in law is allergic to avocado and sure enough, it came out with avocado. Absolutely ridiculous. We continue the evening and she takes forever to ask us our dinner order. When we finally do order, my brother in laws steak is not cooked to the way he asked. The bartender, manager and chef all come over to question him! We get told that he will have to wait 30 minutes because the restaurant was so busy. It’s a steak and my husband went over to the main dining room and there were two seated tables. They straight up lied to us about it which is uncalled for. The bartender was also eating AT THE BAR while she was working. She would come over to us while still chewing and ask us if we needed anything. After the manager and the bartender argued over comping the steak, we were totally over it. I could not believe the experience we had at a place that charges so much. To top it off, they still put on their outdoor fireplaces and we were so uncomfortable with more heat. I cannot recommend this place to anyone with this kind of...
Read moreAn unfortunate experience!!! Our server was wonderful and from appetizer to entrée the food was amazing. One of the best I have had in a while. The issue came when the men ordered a second Johnny Walker Black. Our server took a while then came back and told us that the bar was out of Johnny Walker Black however the manager was going to get another bottle. When the drinks finally did arrive, you could tell immediately from the look on my husband and friends face that something was off. They both said right away “There is no way this is Johnny Walker Black”. We told our server and again he was wonderful. He would have it taken care of right away. Shortly after the manger came over to our table. He did not introduce himself, he walked up to the table and said, “I’m here to discuss the issue with the Johnny Walker.” He stared off on the defensive and frankly quite rude. We had said that the drinks were not Johnny Walker Black, perhaps there was a mix up at the bar. Then the manager said he would never try to switch out a drink and give someone something less then what they ordered, no one at a BRG restaurant would ever do that.” He then said, “is there anything else you wanted to discuss?”. That was it. He came over to basically tell us off and move on with his night. The unfortunate thing is no one at any point said he tried to do anything. We were under the impression maybe the wrong drink order was picked up at the bar. Due to his attitude and all-around basic lack of customer service we would never eat at a BRG...
