Several years ago, I was searching for a shop that could handle all of my specialty automotive needs and do so to the highest standards that I set for myself. I admit, I can be anal when it comes to my cars. A friend of mine recommended Vanguard in Stoney Point, NY. First, I wanted to apply PPF and ceramic coating to my 911 Turbo. That experience turned out to be flawless. Then, a few months ago, my wife and I discussed the possibility of upgrading our audio system because we love music and only ride our car in the summer with the top down. Our goal was to be able to hear crystal clear sound and staging, while running down the highway, well let's just say at pretty fast speeds. Actually, I really didn't think it would be possible, given the wind and road noise. Well, after consulting with the Team at Vanguard assuring us that they could achieve our goal, we brought the car in a few weeks ago for an installation that first included a complete sound dampening of the inner and outer skins of the doors, then swapping the head unit, all of the speakers, replacing the amp, and adding a DSP unit that enabled us to fine tune our system to our specific needs. Oh, and we also added a front camera as well. Chris also explained to me that Vanguard had the ability to CAD design and laser cut adapters so he could put 8" mid-base speakers in the door panels in exchange for the OEM 6.5" that would dramatically improve sound quality without altering any OEM look. Now, the decisive moment. We picked the car up Wednesday morning, after Chris and Seth spent an hour explaining to us how to operate the system and making sure before leaving that we were completely satisfied. After, we went from the shop for a three-hour top-down drive through the Catskill Mountains. All I can say is that these guys are pure genius. The sound pouring out of this system was beyond anything we could have imagined. Crystal clear, with every nuance beautifully displayed. Funny story illustrating commitment to one-of-a-kind service: Months ago, Vanguard installed a jaw-dropping audio system in my car. I love it. A few weeks later I was about to drive to Boston for a family function, an in-person Fantasy Draft. I loaded up the box of trophies and party favors I was to bring, and stared my journey. Pulling out of my driveway, I turned up some music, and as I did, an ear-piercing feedback occurred. When I turned the music off, it stopped. Weird, but short on time, I hit the gas and turned the music back on. The noise slowly crept back in to a deafening level. I turned the music off but this time the noise persisted. It was so excruciatingly loud and high-pitched I had to immediately pullover and evacuate the car on the side of the road. The sound was still absolutely blaring even with the car off! Out of options and short on time, I tried calling Vanguard. This was about 7am on a Saturday keep in mind, so like a crazy person I tried to explain to their answering service the situation I was in. Somehow they called me back in 10 minutes. (I guess they monitor that line off-hours? 🤷🏼) Seth’s tone was that of a person who sensed a family member in trouble. Since I couldn’t even sit in the vehicle, Chris swung by the Vanguard shop, grabbed some diagnostic tools, and drove OVER AN HOUR to my location in NYC! Using his expert, world-class troubleshooting skills, he quickly found the problem. It was a bullhorn in the box on my back seat. Something pressed against the trigger and it was feeding back on itself. I was so embarrassed ! 🤡 If Chris wanted to kill me, he hid it well.
