My family member went to this location as we recently took in a street cat who up until recently was doing fine. Our cat has been throwing up for the past three days now and is slowly starting to recover. He ate a small bit of my spider plant by the window. Now onto the review:
When my family member came, to his account, the PetCo of Route 22 in Union refused to see the cat. When my family member asked why, a staff member went to the back for a long time to discuss and came back without providing much lead as to next steps besides going to an emergency place.
I decided to call this PetCo upon his return to gain a better understanding and spoke to a man named Sean on the phone. I asked about the general services provided by PetCo as I familiarized myself with the website's advertised services, which included sick care and a routine checkup. From my research and asking my colleagues who have owned many cats, it was advised to have a veterinary doctor perform routine bloodwork and vaccinations for street cats.
Sean told me that the veterinary doctor is present at this location on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and that "he is in today". This frustrated me because my family member came to this location and I remembered our cat's state. Additionally, it made no sense to me how a veterinary doctor or an establishment like what PetCo is perceived to be, denies service to a sick animal. I calmly mentioned that my family member visited this location and was told the cat cannot be seen because it is a street cat.
It was only then that Sean said, "Oh." in a knowing way, as if he realized the experience I was referring to. He provided helpful next steps which was useful as our family has owned other animals like birds (two budgies), but never a cat. If this information was conveyed in person, this would have really helped. However, being told that a proof of ownership needs to be obtained from a local shelter before ANY type of recommendations or health intervention strategies sounds odd. And that is the source of my review. Please be mindful and keep this in mind when visiting this location. I've never heard of this before, even from friends, colleagues, and forums of...
Read moreNot very pleased with my purchase today. I went to buy a turtle tank which had a sticker on it which displayed the RETAIL PRICE $149 and the PALS REWARD PRICE $74.99. I have the pals reward and if I’m not correct, I should get charged for the PALS REWARDS PRICE OF $74.99. I went to purchase the tank and the store manager was called to the front for an override to change the price. The cashier Explained to the manager that there is a sticker from January 2021 that is on the tank and she doesn’t think I can buy the tank for the pals rewards price. The manager then said I can’t let you buy the tank for $74.99 but I can give you 20% off. As a customer who shops at Petco because I have pets and have the right to receive the price I seen wasn’t given that right today. It is not the customers fault that the STAFF doesn’t pay attention to their products and pricing. Yes we all make mistakes and yes we can correct them but as a customer, I should have been able to receive the price I seen instead of just taking off 20% from the retail price. I didn’t argue with the cashier or the manager, I took the 20% kindly and walked away. This situation could have been handled in a better way. Petco makes a lot of money and they’re not losing nothing so for a manager to give the customer an item at a sales price wouldn’t hurt the store nor the sales. I am proud to say that this a lesson learned and my money will not go towards this company again. I will kindly return all of the products bought and shop somewhere else where I can feel happy spending my money. Thanks Petco, my family won’t be customers either. The next day I was contacted by the store manager and he said I should have gotten the price I seen, he told me to come in and I will get a refund of the difference. The store manager was a great help and I appreciate him contacting me and allowing me to...
Read moreSales associate joey was very rude. During my purchase for new cichlids for my second aquarium. It was both my fiance and Is day off so we were in no rush. We approached Joey (who was cleaning a tank) and asked if whenever he had a chance he could help us grab a couple cichlids. There was only one other gentlemen looking around in the aquatics aisle. I went to browse other sections while my fiance waited for the four cichlids I picked out. When he came back I noticed the only all black cichlid in the tank, I chose was not in the bag. I asked my fiance (who realized Joey was not happy to help, and just wanted to get out of the store) if we could just go back and ask for the black convict cichlid because we live a distance from the store and may not have the opportunity to come back right away. He then asked Joey once again for another fish to which he (cleaning a tank) didn't even look up at my fiance to acknowledge our presence and angrily said, "Which one?" When we showed him what we wanted my fiance kindly asked if he could grab the two biggest cichlids in the tank to which he replied in a monotone manner, "I'll do what I can." I immediately left my fiance standing with joey to ask for the manager Tim, the cashier a young lady unsure of her name was sweet and very apologetic (even having done nothing wrong) but mentioned perhaps joey was just having a bad day because someone called out. I don't think this excuses ANYONE to interact with others like that. He never even bothered to ask what other fish I have in my tank if they would be compatible tank mates did not care about well-being of the fish. NOTHING. Never once saw Tim the store manager after having asked for him. Extremely disappointed. However I love my cichlids and they have been getting along just swimmingly with my parrotfish...
