Yet again CHOP has let my wife and I down but more importantly our newborn child. We came here after our one month check up with our primary in Souderton as our newborn has had an ongoing issue with vomiting fits. While in the office with our primary she witnessed him throw up essentially everything in his stomach through about 6 separate spit ups to which she urged us to go that night. The experience started out promising and worthwhile seeming. The staff in the ER was extremely friendly and caring. The DR on staff in the ER said okay lets feed him two ounces and see if he keeps it down, after seeing him vomit it all back up about 10 minutes later the DR admitted us into the hospital concerned. Once admitted everything went down hill. We got to our room and were immediately taken to scan for Pyloric Stenosis which was thankfully ruled out. After that was ruled out the doctors did not stay nor did the nurses for the behavior and concerns that the ER doctor or we were concerned with. After a very frustrating night we were told its just reflux and its normal and that the baby gained weight since primary care, which we argued with them about as the primary weighs the baby naked and they weighed him in clothes and swaddle. The only staff member that was concerned and heard us out was the nutritionist who said the baby should not be behaving this way on nutramigen weeks later. The doctors shooed her out and told her no, gave us no answers and essentially refused to even speak to us beyond that point. I asked for another opinion once there was a staff change. They did not like that so they sent another pediatrician in to tell us its normal and that if we stay they would only do a weight check again and that they would not monitor the baby. I finding this to be a waste of money agreed to leave as that does not address our concerns. After agreeing, the doctor told us to just keep doing what we are doing and that there is no point to doing weight checks at the primary as babies weight fluctuates often. We took this advise and fast forward four weeks now our baby has gained a whole 5 ounce since then and is about 3lbs under what they would like. Our primary found this ridiculous and said she wishes we came in and that their weigh ins were clearly incorrect and that they should not have dismissed us so quickly.
We are over two months in now with our newborn with no answers from any of the CHOP locations we have been to and have thrown thousands of dollars away just to be dismissed with umbrella ailments which does not solve our problems. Needless to say we are at our last straw here and find that it seems to be a common review from other parents that CHOP only care at their main hospital in Philadelphia and outside of there it is a money grab with dismissive pediatricians. Soon we will have to start over with a new network and hope for answers to get our sanity back and our newborn on track...
Read moreThere is no reason why I was in the ER for really bad depression episodes, and in all of the six hours I was there, I saw two people â the doctor and the social worker. The social worker is absolutely unbelievably bad at her job. Iâve been to this hospital two other times for the exact same thing, and I had her twice. When I had her the very first time, she was telling my mom that she thought I was doing it for attention and being dramatic.
This second time I had her, she told me that she thought I would be okay to go back home because âwe feel like itâs best to send children back home with their family.â Obviously, Iâve been home â I had just told her how my depression is so bad that I canât get up in the morning, so Iâve been doing nothing but spending time with family. I also told her I didnât trust myself anymore, and she proceeded to say that she thinks partial is the best option.
I started telling her that she was basically saying there was nothing they could do, and she just repeated âpartialâ and said, âcross your fingers and hope that it works this time.â So I told her, in my frustrated state, that she didnât even care and that it wasnât smart to tell someone already on the edge that thereâs nothing she could do. She said, âI do hear you, but thereâs nothing I can do to help you. I wish I could.â Like â itâs literally your job.
By this time it was 12:35 a.m., and my dad had to work at 5:30, and we live 37 minutes away, so he was also getting irritated. We got so irritated that we almost walked out without seeing the doctor again. They took an extra hour to print the discharge papers, and the doctor asked me if I was actually going to go to partial or if I was just saying it to go home. I thought the answer was already pretty obvious, but maybe that was just me.
Then she said something about me not being in school, like Iâm just a spoiled kid who refuses to go, and said, âI donât want to be at work today, but Iâm here till 7 p.m.â So I said, âYou get paid for it, and you chose the job.â Needless to say, donât go here if youâre going through serious mental...
Read moreBeen sitting in ER LOBBY SINCE 2pm and STILL waiting to go back and it's now 9:30pm!! My daughter needs to be seen for syncope after having excessive and frequent nose bleeds! I was told by her primary to bypass urgent care for the ER! THIS PROCESS needs a re-evaluation. There should be a better way to triage patient care without having an overcrowded lobby with a mixture of infectious and non-infectous patient populations with no ability to maintain space! It seems we have learned nothing in regards to infection control from COVID! We could have clearly waited at home or provided a specified time based on acuity and symptoms. Otherwise, how long will we wait to be seen if every patient before us is a patient having respiratory distress. These children in this waiting room should be allowed to wait at home instead of having to sit in a cold uninviting waitroom full of germs to only find joy with other sick patients to pass the time. Furthermore, the vending Machine is empty with only candy to eat. The little girl next to us repeatedly stated "I'm really hungry" to her mom. Her mother and understandably so, did not want the child to eat too quickly given she was there because she could not keep anything down. However, how many other kids have to wait this long without a snack or Money for Vending?! They sure didn't offer any animal crackers and its not as if they can't caution those that shouldn't eat either. This nurse who just started her triage shift need a reality check if she believes it's alright for anyone to still be waiting this long to be seen based on the ABC'S of airway, breathing and circulation! And there are instances where circulation can be cause for ineffective breathing! I'm about to send her back to...
