Good gym if you are casually climbing. My problems consist of opening hours and rules/regulations on climbers. To start, they open way too late. I’m a lover of all climbing gyms but if I can’t go early before my day starts like one might be able to do at a regular non-climbing gym, then I’d say I’d be let down. And then with rules for their climbers; they have all the basic, understandable rules but what gets me is they don’t allow youth of under 16y/o to boulder… As a growing community that should be reaching out to those who will carry this sport into the future, and as a gym especially, allowing most if not all people who want to hop on the wall and climb do so is so important in my opinion. I get wanting to preserve the space and not want it turning into a jungle gym but when I, a climber, climbing guide, and brother, show up with my younger brother (13) am told that I can’t help him seek potentially a new passion in bouldering(the most accessible climbing in terms of gear required), I again am let down and disappointed. We live in rural PA, with the best option and variety of climbing found inside, especially for beginners so appealing to such a group is crucial in my opinion. Unfortunately, this is all just my opinion and there are probably other issues underlying such as not having staff to work earlier mornings or wanting to cater towards your regular crowd of older climbers which I get but that’s no way to treat a sport you love. Makes it hard wanting to spend the money on a membership here. I’d rather pour into a gym that has...
Read moreDrove 35 minutes to take my 2 kids climbing today. Before i left the house i checked the website for hours of operation and rates. I also filled out the waiver forms needed for my 2 children. Upon arriving we were happy to see that it was not real full. There did seem to be a descent amount of staff milling around though. We were greeted promptly at the cash register and asked if we could be helped. I told the woman that i had filled out the waivers for my 2 children and they were looking forward to climbing. Unfortunately we were told that there was no open climbing that day (didn't notice anything stating this on the website). We were told if we waited until 4:30pm we could take the belaying lesson then belay for our kids (It was 1:30pm). Here again, no mention on website as i was signing up. I had come about 4 years ago and had no issue taking a short lesson then belaying for my kids right then and there. Then I was told i could also come back Friday night or Saturday and they could climb with instructors. Needless to say my kids were disappointed. I was ticked off as well. I don't get how this is not in your face on their website. I also couldn't believe that they wouldn't accommodate us. It was not busy at all. You would think they would want the business on a slow Monday afternoon. It's no wander places like this go out of business. Very...
Read moreIf you are looking to give rock climbing a try for the first time or if you are a veteran climber looking for a new spot….don’t hesitate to visit PRG. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and supported. It’s a welcoming place that provides a legit climbing experience for all levels.
I highly recommend asking about lessons. Specifically their Climb Fit program. I had been climbing for about two years. I was progressing steadily at first but ended up hitting a plateau. I wasn’t getting any better and I wasn’t having fun anymore. I started attending Climb Flit classes and was able to quickly move on from the plateau. Adamir is my coach. His knowledge of climbing and everything that goes along with it(mental and physical) is incredibly helpful. His help and passion for the sport quickly made me love climbing again. There’s nothing I look forward to more than walking through the doors at PRG Oaks with my wife and daughters.
Even if you are a veteran climber I recommend Climb Fit. The workouts will push you and the coaches will help get you to that next climbing goal of yours.
Thanks for...
