Small grocery store serving West African foods. The meats are frozen, the prices are good, and the products often hard to find elsewhere. However, on my last visit, I was treated very strangely.
I got a piece of meat from the freezer that didn't have a price tag. When I brought it to the cashier, she didn't know the price either, since it's usually brought to the meat cutters, priced and cut up. A cutter came up, and slightly baffled I didn't want it cut. He paused for a moment and looked at the cashier oddly, and then just made up a price, $5, that was several times higher than the real price (based on similar cuts costing much less per lb). I'm clearly not West African, and they just made up a high price to overcharge me. I refused the item.
Then the cashier got very rude and demanded to see my license when I used my credit card, something I've never had happen to me except when buying alcohol of course, and I wasn't buying alcohol at Afrik.
Be very careful about buying things here without a price tag to make sure you don't get ripped off. Or just shop at Florida or Caribbean Crescent...
Read moreThe prices here are reasonable, and the food no doubt has good quality. But I found there was an extreme lack of good customer service. The cashier especially was highly disrespectful and interruptive whenever they would ask rude questions and I would answer. I am a human being who just came to buy some groceries and necessities for my family. I’ve already had a very long day and I was exhausted and even more so writing this review. Terrible service, rude attitude, and terrible work ethic. If your looking for things to buy by all means shop here, but I for one will not be...
Read moreI would leave 0 stars if possible. This is my neighborhood African store and I have patronized this business for over 4 years now. This business has made ZERO improvements in that time. Not in hygiene, the places reeks like hell! The customer service is nonexistent, the sales person acts like you are irritating her. They also have unreasonable policies. As a Nigerian I try to root for my people but Afrik does not deserve my business. Like most Africans in this area, I will take my money to Mexican and Asian stores where things are so much better and better priced too....
