Unfortunately, I had a encounter where I was deeply disrespected by one of the gentlemen working here. I stopped in to pick up a custom framed gift and was treated as if I didn’t exist. I immediately approached the register to pick up the item and waited for the employees to return to the register. After returning to the register, the employee called for a customer from another area of the store who was behind me to process his transaction first and asked me to step out of the way. I don’t know if it was the fact that I was dressed casually in a raincoat and sweatpants for the bad weather or if it was a matter of his perception of my racial identity, either way, someone waiting at the register should have been helped before someone approaching the line from behind me. I give the other employee from the back of the store credit for recognizing my dismay at the treatment and asking if I was okay. This was, however, not enough to allay the micro-aggression I had experienced.

I regret that it took an act of outstanding customer service to prompt me to write this review, since I've been a customer for years. This is my go-to shop for passport photos (they can make them for other countries too!) and quality framing. It also has an excellent selection of greeting cards. But today, the owner went above and beyond: They had taken my photos that I needed for an application, which I sent via UPS. UPS promptly lost the application, and the only thing to do was to redo the whole thing, which was a lot of labor, including getting my photos retaken. Capitol Hill Frame & Photo made this really frustrating situation a little bit better. They were able to reprint the photos they had taken a few weeks before, and did so at no cost, even though I certainly expected to pay.
