You know, it is really easy to walk in to the DMV with low expectations especially when walking in with a problem needing adjudication this location restored my faith that there is hope with the people working at this DMV location.
First off, this DMV location is located in a clean fresh shopping sprawl mall- a food court, a post office, clothes shops and the SPY Museum.
There is a public parking garage across the road in another Federal building, of course. It is SW DC, south west DC., walkable to the Wharf, up the street from the Smithsonian Castle.
The DMV Adjudication Services was clean, quiet when I went. You walk in, the receptionist is on your right. You get your ticket, sit and wait until you are called. The background music is not the greatest. It's loud, overshadowing your thoughts and almost hearing the numbers being called out.
I was warmly greeted by the woman at Window 10. I showed her my documents I brought in. I went to the DMV to fight a photo enforcement ticket I received in the mail claiming I was 11-15 above the speed limit. Here is the thing, I wasnt above the speed. I tried writing in to the DMV to argue the ticket specifically requesting an in person hearing. And the Examiner D.A. Bailey wrote me back, no, stating I waived a hearing request. I did not. I wrote back again, with more details. added AND I was denied again. I sent a copy to the SEC, to the DOJ, to Mayor Muriel Bowser, you get the picture. But let me explain, Muriel Bowser and the Council contracted with entity the District knew has been sued by the DOJ multiple times. Moreso, I have beat the contractor's tickets multiple times because I exposed they faked tickets. The contractor's faking of tickets is of record. And the SEC and DOJ are aware. I let them see what I sent all at the same time.
Its the way I do things, I am a whistleblower. The SEC asked me to be their whistleblower in 2010, on JP Morgan. And I continued whistleblowing since. And now, on a ticket from the DMV working with a company known for its frauds.
I knew when I walked in to the DMV I would pony up $100, the amount of the ticket. I did not want to risk a ticket that would then rise in debt due to interest the DMV would claim. Get this, before you appeal a ticket, you have to pay the ticket plus a $10 fee. Oh I can read the crystal ball here. I will be denied an Appeal. That is Muriel's DMV.
That said, the night before I prepped my documents before heading to the DMV. I went online. I saw a second ticket Muriel Bowser's DMV claims I got in 2018, a ticket claiming my car was garaged in DC. So here is the thing, I went to the VA DMV and got a printout showing my car has been garaged in Virginia since 2015.
According to Muriel's DC DMV rules, to argue THAT faked ticket, too alleging I was 11-15 over the limit, would have to be paid in full, $240 plus $10. Not happening.
More sharing of these papers. Look, in the papers I sent asking for my in person hearing, I included papers from the Alexandria Court confirming what I wrote in that letter that the Old Town Judge looked at my evidence and agreed the ticket evidence was tampered with. I prevailed.
Which is what I will do here. And did before in DC as I realized. Funny story. DC was under fire before for tickets. Back in 2009, during the inauguration, I got a ticket for allegedly speeding on K Street. So here is the thing. You couldnt get on K Street. K Street was closed off as part of the perimeter. I presented the information to the Hearing Examiner. I prevailed, then too.
So here is the thing, its not just me Muriel and the Council pull their scam on. I was at the Virginia Post Office and the young man behind the counter saw where I was sending the letter to and shared what the DMV was doing to him.
Falsely claiming a car is garaged in DC is fraud. I was told the DC DMV got that information from the VA DMV. I spoke to the VA DMV. Never happened. But what is happening is enough for Muriel...
Read moreMy interaction with Adjudication services beat my very low expectations. It could have been worse….. but with a little effort it could have been good.
I’m from out of town - resulting from a poorly marked and signed intersection and other circumstances I found my self entering an intersection on a red light. I was aware of the red light so I stopped with front bumper just past the crosswalk lines and I put the car in reverse to correct the mistake. The car behind me saw what was happening and left me a full car length to tuck into.
Basically, I corrected the mistake within 5 seconds . No one was hurt or inconvenienced.
I believe that If a police office observed this that a driver would get a pass — maybe a warning. Instead, this is a red light camera enforced intersection and I received a $150 ticket
It was easy to apply online for a virtual hearing that would take place 2 months later. For some reason they need you to upload a copy of your vehicle registration. I made a mistake and accidentally uploaded the wrong document.
The virtual hearing started on time. The examiner started by saying I had not provided my registration meaning they could not proceed with the hearing and they would make judgment based on the video evidence only. I indicated that I had uploaded a document 2 months prior. They indicated that it wasn’t the registration. I asked if I could upload it again or if we could proceed with hearing but have the decision be pending receipt of the doc. NO, NO, NO.
I Clearly made a mistake but the failure to notify me of my mistake and the inability to be flexible at the hearing is silly.
The examiner pushed to end the hearing but I was able to indicate that the every end of the video shows my correcting mistake and i hoped they would take that into account.
I received the results hearing by mail and the examiner had reduced the fine to $75 which was appreciated.
A further appeal would require payment of the fine plus some fees so I took my lumps and and paid online. No credit card fee.
I liked that it was easy to get a hearing and pay fees … but the examiner was very rigid and unable or unwilling to fully consider intent, mitigating circumstances, etc. which is unprofessional and should...
Read more😔I had a very frustrating experience with the DMV. I paid a fine of $100, but the payment was not recorded in their system. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the problem, including two visits to the DMV office, the specialist could not help and advised me to contact the bank. My bank confirmed that the funds were correctly transferred to the DMV account. However, the DMV still claimed that I owed another $200 and referred the case to a collection agency. Now I have received a notification from the collectors demanding to pay $240.I especially want to note that the employee I talked to was not interested in solving the problem. Considering that I had poor English, she spoke quickly and often moved away from the window, showing with all her appearance that she was not up to me. Apparently, the problem is not in the DMV system as a whole, but in individual employees who do not want to help citizens.I found out that other people like me faced the same problem when the fines paid are not fixed, which leads to doubled fines and notifications from collectors. This is unacceptable and shows a serious flaw in the system. Hopefully the DMV will resolve this issue soon to avoid further...
