We were looking for a small business frame shop in our neighborhood, and Gary seemed to be the right guy - friendly, good frame recommendations, confident in his abilities, and reasonably priced. I agreed to get a very special 4x four seasons canvas paintings from Korea, passed down in my family reframed by a specific deadline about 2.5-3 weeks because we were having a big party at our house that I wanted to show the paintings to on a blank wall. He agreed to this deadline, and the other specifications, such as a small tear repair and frame ring hangers that would allow for easy level hanging. About a week before the agreed to deadline, I emailed, texted, and called multiple times to get updates. He only responded via phone call. He blamed the shipper of the frames for the order delay, and told me he would call / text the next day with any updates. About 30 minutes before closing time each day, I would reach out to him because he never reached out to me. Finally, the day before the deadline, I called again to be informed that they were not going to be complete by the deadline, but that he would rush them over the weekend. I told him not to worry about it because I only cared that it got to us by the deadline, and that I'd pick it up the following week. He did finally call me for the first time to tell me they were done, and I picked them up a week later. When I came to pick them up, he once again blamed the shipping, and did not take any responsibility in being late or not being communicative. I would have been fine if he offered a partial refund or something in return, but just a casual apology. Then, when I took them to the car, I saw that the frame ring hangers had a wire across the back for hanging. I went back in and said that we agreed to not use wire, and that we specifically wanted the ring hangers to be level across all four paintings. He offered to cut the wires off and guaranteed that the ring hangers were leveled, but I said don't worry about it because they were already packaged for easy transit. When I opened them at home, I was very happy with the presentation - the small tear repair was excellent, and the paintings look really good in the frames he recommended. However, the ring hangers were not level, as promised, which made for difficulty in hanging. I felt like my business with Gary was handled carelessly. It was a very frustrating process for me. I want to support local small businesses, which is why I came here, so the experience I had is...
Read moreThe last time I saw my very large “save the whales - save the seas” prints was at my Holiday party in 2013. (As seen in pics)
The two original Manifesto-Art-Prints "Save the Whales" and "Save the Seas" donated by Hundertwasser were handed over to Greenpeace Pacific Southwest and the Jacques Cousteau Society (Norfolk) in December 1982.
I bid on it at a Cousteau / National Geographic fundraiser and went home with it in that frame. I was proud to own a piece of my heritage and thrilled to support the Cousteau Society, just as my grandfather had.
I can’t remember how but I know at some point, I knocked it off the wall moving something in 2014 and recognized it was time to take it to the framer. It needed a new frame, and to be remounted. I have known Gary for a decade, and prior to this I recommended him to everybody. So Gary is correct in saying I was always happy, as were my clients. I am unhappy now because no matter what I have him doing, it is over 5 years since I have seen my art and I still have no clue when I will get it back!?!?!?!?
After he had it for almost a year and a half I was preparing to move to Boston, so I gave him six months notice. When I moved I didn’t have it. And now 5+ yrs later, I’ve heard every reason why he can’t get it to me: “i’ve moved,” “it’s in a warehouse,” “I’ve been out,” “I don’t have time.” I am penning this review to WARN others that they too could loose something they love.

Read moreWe dropped a painting and frame off with Gary 10 months ago to be assembled and still have not received it back. For the first two months, I called weekly for updates and was eventually told that special matting was required - that ordering that material would take time. Following up a month later, I was told the material was not available and that it would take longer.
Now, I call monthy to try and pick it up (unframed is fine - we just want our painting back!), and I am promised a call back but never recieve it.
Gary says that they are not responsible for art left for a "long time," but I have consistently followed up for months and find it very sketchy that I am not being allowed to pick up my property. Gary is a kind man in person but his follow-up is terrible. We really want to support local but will not be returning here for fear that our treasures will be stolen.
I will update this review if I receive...
