Read moreDo not shop at this location!!! For years having to face the sad reality that this very limited Giant was placed in a predominantly black neighborhood only to drop the ball. I have been in this location twice and have been turned away with my children. I came by to get dinner after grabbing my kids. My bookbag was clearly full of heavy books.
This security guard tells me I can't stop with it and there's a policy not to watch customers bags. Not that I trusted that, a few .months ago I finished shopping to find my school bag on the floor with no security. This time around my 11 year old son says "Mom I'll watch it for you while you go shop". No your not son! With all of the predators, serial assault and racism I don't need my son watching my bookbag to end up Taken. So I told my kids eff this store. Don't ever shop where you and your dollar aren't valued. I was unable to purchase items to make dinner despite it being the only grocery store in a 15 minute walking period. It's a food dessert over here and they capitalize on this!
Lastly, this tactic is disgusting! Just say you don't want black people shopping there. This ain't even about theft! There are more citizens such as myself who pay for our groceries. We should not be penalized because leadership is not successful in strategically planning/ executing. Talk go to 7th Street NW it's a Super Giant and has a lot of variety without the prejudice or discrimination. STOP SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY HERE! DONT LET THIS STORE CAPITALIZE OFF YOUR CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES!! I literally have a family to feed. Even YES! ORGANIC was worth me travelling and paying a higher dollar...
Read moreI'm wondering why the people in the neighborhood shop here. It's a predominantly black neighborhood and the owner(s), seem to have this policy targeting women with oversized purses and/or bags and men with backpacks/small bags. Some woman was stopped by a security guard. He pretty much charged at her like he was getting ready to throw hands. He was thuggish, rude and ordered her to leave because she couldn't shop with a bag in her possession. The woman/victim said to the thuggish security guard, “so now you're enforcing shopping While Black?" It was funny and sad at the same time. The security guard didn't have a nice clean uniform with a light shirt like most professional security guards either. This guy was kitted up like he was raiding a village in Afghanistan, or maybe hitting Rayful Edmond's house on a raid. He also looked a bit sloppy.
The woman was calm and collected as she stated she would not be returning to shop here and would tell her friends to not shop here either. Can't say I blame her but for the most part, people who live here seem to be okay with it, so I guess it will continue. Unless they start losing money, if that occurs, maybe we wont have kitted up guys meeting you at the door and throwing you out if you shop with a purse or bag.
I've been in Giant stores in predominantly white neighborhoods and even predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods and I have never seen such behavior. To be honest, you don't see armed security in those stores either. I guess Giant is letting you know what they really think. Guess I'll stick with Safeway. To be honest, their stores are much cleaner and...
