WISH I COULD GIVE GOODWOOD ZERO STARSI stopped by the store today, 6/25. There were two associates working at the time- a woman and younger man. I walked the entire store, front to back, looked through three clothing racks, browsed the furniture in the back, sprayed perfume tester bottles, revisited a clothing rack and neither of them acknowledged me AT ALL. Not a "Hello", "May I help you?", "Have you been here before" "Are looking for anything in particular?". NOTHING! I walked past the counter where the woman was, to get to the perfume counter...Silence. The young man was hanging up clothes right next to the rack I revisited....again SILENCE. Before I left, I said to the woman. " I told my granddaughter something the other day. If you're in a store and the sales associates don't acknowledge you, do NOT spend your money there. I don't care HOW MUCH you like something. Do NOT buy anything. They DO NOT respect you and they do NOT deserve your money. So following my own advice, I wouldn't buy a damn thing in here, even If I liked something. You two didn't say a word to me the entire time I was in here." Her expression and wide open mouth let me know she wasn't expecting me to address the bad customer service and thought I would just leave quietly. NOPE! We MUST speak up.
Of course she had nothing to say. Just sat there with a dumb look on her face as I walked out. I see other reviews with similiar stories. I think it's safe to say brown people are not welcomed here. Your loss, not mine. I love when people show exactly how they really feel and I don't have to guess. I won't be back.
On a brighter but bittersweet note, I went around the corner to Ms. Pixie's and had a totally different experience. The young lady greeeted me as soon as I walked in and we chatted about the store closing. Sorry to see it go. I purchased my first dining set there, when I first...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had shopped at Good Wood for many years. I enjoyed buying unique dresses and jewelry from their store. However, after attending the Fall Dress Party that was held on Friday, October 14th, they will no longer get my business. I was one of two black people in their store. The amount of racial profiling I experienced while shopping was insulting. They nearly broke their necks with their thinly veiled fear hidden behind overly strained politeness as they attempted follow my every move. As I began to walk up to the cashier and purchase two pair of earrings. The sales person stressed that she could take the earrings up to the cash register as I continued to shop. I told her, no thank you. I'm going to purchase them now. She then sent her young coworker over to me while standing in line to pay. It was an attempt to strike up a conversation with me in order to confirm & observe that I didnāt steal any of the earrings. I did not engage in her conversation. So, she left. She then returned and skipped the customer in front of me, only asking me if I wanted the two earrings boxed up. I am a 60 year old professional black women. I have seen enough to know when white people fear me because of the color of my skin. Don't worry Good Wood, you will not see me again in your store. However, remember this. When you are fearing the black person because you think they are a thief, just know that there is a white person, using the cloak of entitlement, walking out your store front door with stolen...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTL;DR: This store sells lamps that are currently available at Ikea for more than twice the cost. How can I trust anything else they sell, and why would I want to give them my business?
I recently moved to DC from NYC and am looking for a few pieces for my new place. My home is almost entirely furnished with vintage and antique items collected over the years, so GoodWood seemed like a good place to browse.
This store is beautifully curated and styled, with a mix of vintage and current pieces. By "current," I did NOT expect to see the Ikea Ranarp clip lamp (sans tags), branded as a "modern clip light," and sold for $48. I actually needed to take a trip to Ikea last week, so I stopped by the lighting section during that trip to see if they still sold it. The answer is yes, and for $21.99. See my pictures, both taken within the last week.
This calls into question the legitimacy (and price!) of every item in the store. I saw another lamp I liked in GoodWood, but I didn't consider buying it because I had just seen the Ikea lamp and for all I know, the one I liked is from CB2 or Wayfair or something. Ruined the whole store for me. Miss Pixie's seems like a great...
