I've been really impressed with Simms. I've had them do all sorts of work including hanging chandeliers and adding new outlets. But most impressive has been their integrity and their knowledge.

I hired Even to come out and install an EV outlet, and he pointed out that all I needed was an adapter for an existing dryer connection (probably saved me at least $500). He also answered all my questions about EV wiring and solar options for nearly an hour and billed me nothing.

Perhaps most impressively, I wanted an electrician to install a manual transfer switch in my garage so I could use my EV as a generator in the event of a power outage. This isn't simple as the EV has a bonded neutral inside and a GFI (so you can't have neutrals connected at all outside the EV) and it's tricky to 1) figure out how to wire that, 2) help an inspector understand what and why you're doing what you're doing, and 3) have patience with EV software as you simulate an outage and validate that everything is working. Simms navigated all of this for me and got the system working correctly when they could have walked away, told me it was too difficult, or that they didn't want the liability, etc.

This place is amazing. A home insurance inspector (who was not an electrical inspector) came on behalf of Hartford Insurance and I received a letter from them that said my breakers were Zinsco type and were dangerous and out of date and that we would need to have the breaker box and breakers replaced. It didn't seem right since our system was put in long after those breaker systems had been discontinued. After looking on inspection websites, I found information that supported that the inspector probably was mistaken but I needed a professional opinion. I took very detailed photos of the box and breakers and visited Simms electric. Mr. Simms was able to make an assessment and confirm that our breakers were indeed modern, safe Westinghouse breakers and up to code. He was able to generate a letter for the insurance company and saved me a lot of expense. He did this graciously and without charge! If I ever need any electrical work done I will be heading there.
