Yesterday afternoon, I had one of the most horrifying experiences with Odie, at Petco in Waterford. I took him in for a nail trim, and seeing as he is a French bulldog as it is any of those flat nose breeds have problems with breathing in our very at to stress themselves out in any sort of restrain constricts their airflow. Doing that pretty much send them into anaphylactic shock type breathing, without the allergies obviously.
He had the nail trim, which generally requires two people, because he is quite the drama king as our a lot of little ones. Well, I brought him in and his harness, when the girl took him, she put him in a loop leash and I looked back quickly, I saw she had him on the grooming table on a loop leash. Thinking that she would know better and any type of pulling or restraint would put stress and pressure on him, I guess I thought wrong. When she brought him out, she said he had pooped on the table which is a sign of distressed. She continued clipping all of his nails, and by the time I walked over to the front counter To get him one of his favorite bones at 1:49 PM, he had begun breathing and struggling like Iāve never had him do before. By 2:12 PM, I had him at his vets as an emergency visit. he was pretty much taken immediately from my hands and brought back and instantly put on oxygen. He was given a shot to calm him and bring down his breathing. He had overheated to 106° is very dangerous and they put me in a room and continually and quickly kept me up-to-date. They bathed him, gave him another shot to keep any of that swelling around his bronchial area/airway down, brought his temp down to 101.8. And finally, he was able to sustain his oxygen without the extra oxygyn they have been administering.
I spoke to Petco, and the man was very nice. He explained the whole process that they were contact the vet clinic, and complete the other steps that they needed to complete. He was on the phone with the vet clinic when I left, they gave him the diagnosis . Then they will go and review footage and take action. They are responsible for the vet bill. The vet clinic informed me to call them immediately and let Petco know.
Luckily, Odie recovered fairly quickly, came home, rested, and is back to himself this morning. This honestly could have taken a more serious turn, and although I call him my beefy burrito and say he is a pain in the ass, I sat and cried as he was being being worked on by the amazing staff at the vet clinic.
Please, please please, be so careful taking your animals into any place that does not educate about these breeds and their breathing, and employee, some quite inexperienced .ļæ¼I thought because it was such a great price for nail clipping, I would give it a try. NOT the best judgment on my behalf, and I regret it now for him having go through what he did!
This is a quick video I took while racing him to the vet clinic just so you can hear what to listen for if you feel your dog could be in distress. By the time he came out of his travel, crate, he was soaked, foaming at the mouth and gums were purple.
Thank you so much to Abby Alexander and the absolutely amazing staff/vets at VCA New London for saving Odie. ļæ¼
Also to add, Waterford Petco paid for my emergency vet visit the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here for 2 fish and 2 African dwarf frogs. The worker closest to the fish tanks was busy talking to a family about hamsters so we went to look for another employee for help. There were 3 women employees doing absolutely nothing but talking to each other about non work related things. We politely walked over and interrupted their conversation to ask for help getting the fish and frogs. One of the ladies told us, the guy talking to the family with the hamsters was the fish guy and said they couldnāt help with a rude tone. So we went over and waited by the fish, waiting for the guy to be done. I kid you not, we were waiting for 45 minutes while that one employee was busy answering the families questions about the hamsters. We then asked the guy (with like 15 minutes left before closing) for help. He told us heās not the fish guy and he literally walked over to get the women to help. All three of the woman we originally asked 45 MINUTES EARLIER WHO WERE DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THE ENTIRE TIME came over to us. One of the ladies was telling one of the other coworkers which fish she is going to get after they close for her tank before asking what we wanted. They FINALLY got our fish and frogs and rang us up right before closing. Please choose better employees, that experience was absolutely pathetic, we will never be going back to that Petco again. Also the lady who got our fish was very knowledgeable about the fish and pricings, she knew the prices off the top of her head but somehow couldnāt have been bothered to get our fish when she was doing absolutely nothing the entire time we were waiting? Pathetic, do better. Again, never stepping in that Petco again. horrible employees except for the hamster guy who was very polite and spent 45 minutes helping a family with their questions. Those ladies are absolutely horrible employees. Took us about an hour to get 2 fish and 2 frogs with 4 employees in the store, with only 1 employee helping the only other customers in the store while the 3 lady employees were busy sitting talking to each other, avoiding doing their job. We were the only customers in that store besides the one family looking at hamsters.. It was shocking, I never in my life have ever experienced customer service this bad. I been to a lot of Petcos and this is by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe WORST grooming experience I ever had. Iāve been a member with Petco for over 5 years and a vital care member for over a year now, and never had any issue with any Petco groomer location. The Petco Waterford location has truly made it so much easier to decide to take my business else where. We had an issue with two groomers LIlLY N and REBEKAHA M. Letās start off with LILY N, My dog gets nervous especially around strangers (who wouldnāt?) but never shown any aggression or have any history of aggressive behavior. Instead of helping my dog feel comfortable by maybe saying my dogās name at least once, she decides to deny service, give ME an attitude and ban us from ever coming back. REBEKAHA M had an issue with my dog at the end of the grooming because she was ātoo nervousā, but instead of discussing the situation she decides to write it in the little report card and send us on our way. If there was an issue, it should be professionally discussed to the owner. Both groomers NEVER once made the experience a delightful one for us or my dog. NEVER once made the environment friendly. NEVER called my dogās name or pet them to make her comfortable. My dog usually goes to Shelby. My dog loves her and enjoyed being around her. Unfortunately sheās no longer there. So I guess we had to settle for less. May I also add I paid over 100.00 and a terrible job was done? I found more than 5 scabs all...
