On July 3rd at 9am I took my 2016 Chevy Malibu to Farris Stereo (Farris Stereo, 4007 University Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701) and I spoke to Steve and there was another man he was working with there at his business. I wanted to get my sub woofer and amplifier in my car, they said they would sell me an amp for $275.00 and I had already provided my sub which was in good working condition. theysaidwere reliable and that if I wanted it done correctly it would be safetogothrough them. They installmysubandamp and I left my car there all day and I went to pick it up around 5pm and when I got there I went to inspect my car and listen to the radio and the base was turned up extremely high I immediately went back inside the business and told them this and the guy that installed it said “ya turn the knob down” I didn”t know what he meant by this so I asked him if he could show me and he got irritated by this. He then came outside to my car and I opened my car door and he made the comment “oh it’s over heating” and I asked him what he said and he said “oh the weather is hot outside.” he showed me how to turn the base down. he gave me a receipt and I asked him if there was anything I needed to know or how to do before I left and he said “no you are good to go.” I asked him if I had any issues I could bring it back and if the would fix it and the guy said “yes.” on Sunday July 6th I was driving home from work when I my radio shut off and I smelled a burning smell like a melted wire and I pulled over when looked in the back of my trunk and it was was smoking from my trunk. I rushed home I’d fast as I could and opened the trunk and tried to cool it down and then I took my car straight back to Farris Stereo, 4007 University Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701. The next day they looked at my vehicle and told me my Sub was fried and I could purchase another one for more money. I paid them 1,000 dollars for them to ruin my sub because of improper wiring I want a refund or my...
Read moreMy son took his Honda van to Honda dealer in Cedar Falls and they said they needed to take out remote start as this was causing the problem and wanted 200.00 + 75.00 to diagnose it. We paid the 75.00 and said we did not want them to take the remote start out. We took the van to Farris Stereo and told them what it was doing. They spent several hours checking it out and updated some software. We asked what we owed and we agreed to take it home and see if we were still having issues. It's been over a month and the software update evidently fixed the problem. We asked what we owed for the hours of working on this and the owner said 20.00 for lunch for both of us. This business has been doing stereo and remote start service for years and they know more than any dealership! Thank Goodness we did not let them remove the remote start. Thank you Farris Stereo. Read moreHave showed up a couple times to give these guys my business in the last few years but each time was told the sheer "colossal effort" that was going to be involved in the install was going to cost me at least $350 and take several hours.
Then I go home and watch a couple videos and do the install myself in about 90 minutes, and that was being very careful at each step. In fact the way the install was described to me at Farris would have been suboptimal, I found out.
They certainly do not like when you come in knowing exactly what you want and also know what it takes to get it done. You're too difficult to con that way, I guess.
Sometimes people want an install done not because they don't have the knowhow but that they don't have the time right away.
I completely understand the other reviews mentioning rude...
