Deseret Book — Local services in West Bountiful

I am only giving a 1 star review because of the way me and my children were treated while in this store. The store itself is beautiful and clean and had what we needed. I usually love my experience at deseret book. I brought my kids in to look at some things for the new year to be able to study better together. My 3 kids who are all under the age of 6 sat quietly playing/reading in the kids area. I was so proud of how they behaved. I was by them the whole time but was also looking at books to purchase. One of the employees came up and was critical of how many toys were out, which we cleaned up and put completely away (in the correct spots) before we left. I believe in leaving things as good or better than the way we found them. The other employee who checked us out was critical of the toy yoyo that my son accidentally broke (but that I was paying for because he broke it). I am disgusted that this was my experience. This is the kind of behavior that makes people want to leave the church. I am doing my best to prioritize my gospel learning, teach my kids its importance and spending a Friday night doing so only to be treated like we shouldn’t even be in the store. I didn’t spend a small amount of money either but am now regretting spending any money at all. I won’t be visiting this...

I call the Bountiful location in search of a certain item. The lady that answered the phone was so nice to go check on it for me. Unfortunately, that location didn't have what I was looking for. I mentioned that I guess I was going to be calling other stores to try and locate it. Then she said she could check in the computer to narrow down my search. She told me the best location to try was Draper & she gave me their number. I called them & they did have what I was looking for. I asked if they did store-to-store transfers, & she said they did, then asked me when I needed it by. I told her I didn't think it would be possible, but the event is Saturday (spur of the moment event) & this was on a Friday. She then said it could be done. I usually buy online but the wknd before Christmas sometimes calls for an in-store visit. Went to purchase "6 Days In August" and the moment I walked in the door I was happily greeted and offered help. As a restaurant consultant who emphasizes customer service this location excels in customer service. There's just a warm, welcoming feeling when you walk into this place. Not a phony feeling.
