Really quality goods, mostly fair prices and a clean store,
Almost everything they sell is in great shape clean you feel good about buying it. Some of the tools can be a bit rough around the edges however with lots of life still left in them.
Prices⦠can be depending. Some of the furniture is costly. Itāll be a fantastic piece however you wont have to look for long to find prices into the $300-600 range. If this was an antique shop I could definitely reason with seeing this range of pricing. From what truly is a donations center at heart⦠and not a consignment shop. I donāt know some of the prices feel a bit much for the type of store it is. The pieces can warrant it thereās no doubt about that, the conflict comes into play when youāve arrived at a location you understand to be a donation center and you understand these pieces were given to them cost free.
The store is clean. Full stop. Itās clean. I wont say āinvitingā it is a open warehouse with sparse lighting and a team that is very task focused. Speaking from a customer service stand point, Iāve never had a team member engage me first. Iāve always had to initiate communication. This means you wonāt get a stereotypical āhey howās it going/thanks for coming in/what are we looking forā but again⦠itās not a stereotypical retail store either. Itās a donation center with a focused goal. So I can definitely get by without that. The few times I have engaged a team member theyāve been super pleasant with me. One gent helped me get some pendant lights down I wanted to buy and he was very friendly, outgoing and we even had a few laughs at some jokes. By far heās my favorite team member there.
Lastly Iāll wrap this up with a personal experience that earned my business and my 5 star for life,
When a family member passed I was left about 21 pieces of huge heavy, solid wood furniture she had custom made long before I was born. I called up a mom nā pop resale shop next door (name begins with an L ends with an Eā¦) that I used to patron, and made arrangements 4 weeks in advance for donating the furniture to them. I rented a moving truck loaded everything myself on a swelteringly hot day. Drove to the mom nā pop shop⦠and⦠they said no, told me the person who āassistedā me should never have said yes blah blah. I was beyond mad. I had a truck loaded with furniture due for return in a hour or so. I called EVERYWHERE. Then finally called this restore location⦠they GLADLY took every piece with a smile on their face and saved my day. I will forever be a patron of this location for that interaction.
In closing: if you know what youāre buying and know what youāre expecting to pay the prices are fair, quality is good, store front atmosphere and customer service are okay.. the shinning star is the operation and purpose of this business they understand their goal and they do it very well. 5 out of 5...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy partner and I stopped in Saturday. We stop in whenever we're up that way, usually doing the Rand Road thrift store route, so about once per month.
We had been at a couple estate sales, and we were dressed for comfort. It may be possible that the worn out Carhart insulated jacket I wore, or the pink hoody my partner wore contributed to the managers incredible and fantastic attitude, we'll never know because we won't ever be back, unless he is relieved of his position.
We toured the store, looking at the regular stock of furniture, discussed whether the $3,800 Baughman couch was worth the asking (I said yes, my partner said no. Regardless white doesn't work with our home, and we collect Romweber Furniture.)
We ambled to the used carpets. There was one that was reasonably attractive. We're looking to replace the area rug in our bedroom as we've recently picked up a 1980s Henredon Scene II set which gives us extra floor space.
This particular carpet was strewn about on a flat area. A piece of blue tape was on it stating "Used Carpets $1.00 Per Square Foot."
We unrolled the carpet both on the table it was sitting on and onto the rolling cart that had a couple table tops. We inspected it for damage (there was one very dark, very oily, heel print) and my partner went for a cart. When they got back we rerolled the carpet, I removed the blue tape because it would have been inside the roll, and placed it on top of the now rolled up carpet.
I did the math, as written on the tape the carpet (60% wool, 40 rayon) was $58.50. That's what I would call a fair price for a Surya 6 x 9 foot rug. Retail at Ashley Furniture for similar rugs is $225.00.
We stopped by the register, picked up a box of 2 1/2 inch GRX screws (great deal by the way, but we put them back due to the treatment we suffered).
We told the cashier that we were parking our cart for a few minutes and walked away to look at the smallwares - we collect crystal and art glass - of which the stock was lacking.
We turned back to our cart and there were two employees, one a manager, and another an innocent employee following barked orders. We asked him why he was taking away our carpet. The manager shouted, "Someone has relabeled this carpet, trying to get it for a cheaper price!" and ordered his berated employee to take it away.
He then told us the carpet was $500, and he told us he doubted we could afford the carpet. While we certainly could afford a 6 x 9 carpet for $500, we certainly would not pay that much for a plastic threaded discount carpet.
We put the box of deck screws back, and left the store in shame.
This is no way to treat customers, this is no way to run any store, let alone a store that has a mission.
Good riddance to you sir, I will never be back, and I will work to make sure that this store fails miserably until management is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArrived tonight at 5:38pm to donate items. Nice vanity that previous owner of our house installed but we decided to change out. Also had a kitchen sink and a metal shelving unit. First the door to donations said closed, so we walked around to see if maybe the cashiers could help us. They said they stop taking donations at 5:30pm ?? where does it say that on their website ?? I guess in imaginary land. We asked if they had any shelving brackets and the woman rolled her eyes saying they were closing in 10 minutes. I guess they don't know how to tell time? 5:38pm to 6pm is 22 minutes.
We come here about once a month on the weekends to buy items for our home remodel and never had an issue. I guess don't come here after work because you're going to get rude people.
I think this interaction bothered me even more because I used to work at the Restore in Gurnee a while ago and we never treated customers like that. I get it you're tired at the end of the day and want to go home. But, understand that the majority of the population works from 9am to 5pm, so you're probably going to get some people coming in...
