I want to be clear that I am so glad I chose this restaurant for my dinner in wherever I am Indiana. Upon entry, the teenage clerk looked at me like I was didn't know what I had done and he was right. He was very patient in guiding me through what I could only describe as a strangely simple process of crossing through a Disney pen of stanchions and into a free-for-all of any kind of dish I could hope for. I did my best to try them all. MacNcheese, mashed potatoes and pot roast were surprisingly delicious. What is brown gravy?I don't care. I poured it all over my mashed potatoes. Freewill took over at the salad bar and I ended up with a salad of cucumbers, black olives, canned peaches, and a single beet slice (no lettuce). The meatloaf and spaghetti pie were terrible. The collards tasted like they were made by racism and the fried okra by the 40 acres owed. A free prescription of metformin should have been issued with the chocolate pudding. The lo mein was peak cafeteria perfection. The fried rice rivaled any Philadelphia Chinese food store fried rice (IYKYK). They had pozole (??) and it was bad (...). The baked potato bar slapped. The jello reminded me of my white lutheran grandma and the fried catfish of my ex wife's black baptist grandma. That was the best slice of lemon cake I have ever had in my entire life. I think they keep a mormon back there just for the green bean casserole. Taco bar looked legit but I was too full to indulge. I had a deep urge to hand out narcan to the staff, or at least leave a basket of it by the spoons. The iced tea was refreshing, kept full, and the waitress never left an empty plate on my table. I asked a man in overalls passing out in the booth next to me in front of his toddler daughter if he was okay and he treated me like I was the crazy one. Not a single white man in there held a fork properly but their wives did. I know this is classist, but once I started seeing it, I couldn't unsee it. All shovel style all the time. Every white man. The EXCELLENT waiter looked at me like I was insane for leaving four dollars on the table as a tip for my $20 meal. There were children everywhere and all seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves. I saw two naked babies and that was BY FAR the worst collection of husbands I have ever witnessed in my entire life. I have never been so grateful in all my life to be an urban elite lesbian. I had an amazing time. Place was completely cleared out by 8:15pm. 10/10. I...
Read moreThe food was good, as always. The food never disappoints. Despite the fact that it was a very busy day and I ate arrived around 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday, there was plenty of food to go around. I can't say the same about service. My family and I (four people) sat down dished up. My father waiting at the table while everyone else got their food and my brother helping my handicapped mother carry her plate, I would say that we definitely took our time filling our plates. By the time I got to the table I said "I'll go get drinks" only to be told that it is the servers that have to bring us drinks. Okay so we waited a good 5-7 minutes and no servers had shown up yet. Kind of hard to eat on a hot day and nothing to drink. My mother got up in flagged down the manager who has then gotten us our drinks himself. As we continued to eat, we never saw a server and we ran out of drinks fairly quickly. We had to flag down the same manager again to ask for service. After that the manager was a bit more attentive to our table making sure to keep an eye on our cups, specifically mine. I had to grumpy looking face on purpose to try and get attention. You can tell the manager was trying to kiss up to us by making sure that we had our drink set even when we were clearly finishing up, asking to make sure if we need another drink. But we never saw our designated waitress. The fact that we never saw our waitress and had to ask for service twice before getting any form of attention to the table, I'd say thumbs down on service. Is this their way of making sure that people don't eat too much of the buffet? That they get tired of waiting because they don't have any drink to satisfy thirst with after eating so much? Let us slow down and feel our stomachs before getting up and dishing up again (forcefully due to the fact that we have to wait for drinks). đ The only thing I give this restaurant any credit for is the food itself. Otherwise service was almost non-existent. And you can't eat at a buffet without any drink. So without service this restaurant would suffer. I hear food services tough because people are always so hungry and that makes them irrational and angry. I'm sure he gets even more tough when people are...
Read moreI've eaten here numerous times, so my review is a combination of the various time. The last time, we got food poisoning. And I can tell you exactly how. The guy cooking the steaks was doing great, he put some raw steaks on the grill with the nearly done ones, still fine, they were separated. He switched his gloves, awesome!!
But, then it happened! He moved the raw ones around with the tongs and then he flipped the 99% cooked ones , readjusted the raw ones and then started serving the well done ones.
It was yummy food poisoning though. He did a good job cooking a steak that tasted good. Finally someone who understands that well done doesn't mean burnt to a crisp.
Typically I have to go back and order medium well and still get bleeding on the inside and burnt on the outside. They struggle with steak.
So if you like it cooked and not burnt ask them to butterfly it right off the bat otherwise you're not getting anything close to what you want.
The rest of the buffet is hit or miss depending on the time of day/ what day it is. If you go when they're not at all busy you don't have to deal with crowds but the food will be cold, old and often gross. If you go when it's busy it gets replaced much faster, so you get fresh, hot food. You can go in an in between time and watch the buffet for when they bring out fresh stuff. When they're busy they don't clean very often so the buffets can be a mess, especially the desert area.
They used to have good fish but the recipe changed and it is not good anymore. It's pretty greasy. And tastes bad cold.
The fruit is really sad, not many options and the skins, rinds, etc is often still on.
The salad options never change. So if you ever have had a salad there, you've had a salad there.
Same with the dried out taco stuff.
Overall it is overpriced and the price keeps going up and the quality and the options keep going down.
They need a better way to keep things warm and...
