My mother has always been a a force of nature, a highly independent woman who raised me as a single mother while working full-time for the FAA. I cannot remember one time in my 41 years of life when my mother let illness hold her back from providing for us or from supporting me in any way.... Until she turned 74. This past year, she had major medical issues, which led to a hospital stay of over a month. When the time came to pick a rehab facility for transition care, I was determined to advocate for and protect my mother the way she's always done for me. I researched for days on end, reading reviews and testimonials, taking online and in-person tours. While there were newer facilities and bigger facilities, I decided that Winder Rehab was the best place for her. And here's why - the complete patient experience. It takes HEART to care for someone's loved one - it's that simple. And this place is ALL HEART. From my first interaction with the director, to the nurses and aides, every concern, every question, was met with knowledge AND genuine care. It's a true calling to do what these people do, and they answer that call consistently and efficiently. My mom is very picky about good food, and she's raves about every meal, which is cooked and served with that same care, love and attention to detail. My mom said she felt like she was eating at her mother's table again! There is no higher compliment from her! The hospital failed my mom in many ways when they transitioned her to rehab - she arrived late, with no warning, and none of her meds had been prepared by the hospital. Winder stepped up to the challenge and hustled to get my mom's meds expedited, ensured she had every single one, made sure she had a meal to eat despite arriving well past dinner hours due to the hospital's lack of planning and coordination. I arrived at 11:15pm her first night there, and was pleasantly surprised to find an army of medical professionals ready and HAPPY to help me! I stayed until almost 2 am getting my mom settled in, and there was never a moment when someone was not immediately available and happily willing to assist us, with expertise unmatched in our area of North Ga. But, it's their HEART that made my mom feel at home the moment she arrived. The security measures in place are amazing, too. For a small town rehab facility to have the latest technology in place to ensure the security and privacy of the patients AND their visitors was just the cherry on top of a host of positive things happening here. I left that room knowing in my heart that my mother was safe and cared about and comfortable - and that she'll be home soon because of the care and attention she's getting at Winder. That's a...
Read moreI wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt because I know healthcare is a touchy subject for some however, as soon as I set foot into the facility I had a bad feeling. I moved the bedside table and roaches (yes multiple!) came out. One even ran out from the bed table that his food was on. Mind you he did not have any opened food in the room and he had only been there for about 2 days at this point. My grandfather was sent here following a stroke. We knew he needed therapy from PT, OT, and SLP however, when talking to the therapist, I was concerned that they were only following a specific "script" if you will and not completely understanding the patient. They used medical terms when speaking with him which confused him more. I can get over that however, I got a call at 11:00 at night stating that he somehow rolled out of the bed while they were changing him. I am completely unsure how an elderly man who can barely move around in the bed can completely roll himself off. He luckily did not get too badly hurt (some good size scrapes on his arms and bruising) however the next day, he developed breathing issues and had to be sent to the hospital. He almost died from septic shock! On top of everything, I got a call 18 hours after he was sent to the ER and asked if I wanted to hold his bed for over $200 a day or if they could fill it with someone else. I understand the business aspect but geeze can we get a moment to cope and figure out if he is even going to live?! 10/10 would highly recommend NEVER sending...
Read moreThe family chose this facility to take care of my fathers needs. We decided based on the reviews and the facility looked like on their website. I spoke with the manager of admissions and i explained all. They assured there will be no issue. I had more conversations of what is not being done more than my fathers updates. Not once did i hear from the physical therapist. I spoke to the occupational therapist because she passed by the room. The first day my parent arrived no one came to his need. Has been this way throughout his stay. The attention to the residents are non-existent. You can call , email, be present and complain, still nothing gets done. The food is horrible. When I arrived his room was a mess. The place smelled horribly. I sent pictures to all contacts and not one response. I asked my father everyday if he wwas bathed, his reply was always no! He was there close to 3 weeks and twice he was fully bathed other times was with a towel. Now i understand why that place smells. They dont take care of their residents. My father lost weight because he wouldnt eat the food, the head nurse came into the room when i was there with a notepad writing doing what can be done so he eats more amd nothing was done after i left. Confirms they are nice and attentive when you're going there and when you're there visiting. When you leave they dont care one bit. This is our first experience with a rehab center. If this is how all rehab centers are, my parents will never be...
