I made an appointment with East Coast Customs to install my 10.4" Vertical Screen Android 13 Fast boot Navigation Radio Phoenix Automotive head unit ($1000) and two 10 inch subwoofers in my 2008 Lexus GX470. After the first install, there was really bad audio distortion. They kept my car for two days trying to figure out the issue and eventually told me the problem was that my radio had bad RCA outputs. They told me I needed to get a new radio.
I reached out to Phoenix Automotive and scheduled a technical support session with them. I made a second appointment with East Coast Customs so they could reinstall the radio while doing a FaceTime call with the manufacturer. They installed it again, but the same distortion issue was still there. They could not figure out what was wrong. They did not charge me for the first install, but I insisted on paying 150 dollars for the second visit because I felt like I was wasting their time.
Later, the manufacturer followed up with me again, and I decided to install the radio myself. After I simply installed the plug and play radio, it worked perfectly with no distortion at all. But now the subwoofers were not working.
I brought the car back to the shop to show them that the radio was working fine after I installed it. The technician checked the wiring and said that the head unit did not have enough voltage to power the amp that powered the subs. He told me they needed to install a line out converter from the factory subwoofer wiring and that I would have to wait about three weeks.
At that point I was fed up, so I took the car to my uncle. Within minutes, he found the actual issue. The amp they sold me was bad. He hooked up a different amp he had sitting around and everything worked perfectly.
I brought this to the shop’s attention, and Jimmy, the owner, dropped everything he was doing and replaced the amp on the spot. That was something I really appreciated. He also gave me a free set of speakers to make up for all the trouble, which was a nice gesture. However, he did not offer to install them, and I have to order the adapter brackets myself.
They also made a policy change because of my situation, which shows they are trying to prevent this from happening again in the future.
The customer service was good, and Jimmy did try to make things right in the end. But they sold me a bad amp, blamed all the issues on the radio, and I had to reinstall the radio myself just to get it working. The whole situation could have been avoided if the install and diagnosis were done correctly in the first place. I appreciate the effort to correct things, but I lost a lot of time and energy trying to fix something I...
Read moreMade an appointment there to have my boat stereo installed. Got a price and took it on the appointment date. I end up having to work the day my boat needed to be there so had a friend take it. So when he was on his way I contacted them to let them know and asked where he needed to park it. They said we are gonna have to cancel your appointment because they took too much work in so they couldn’t get it done. So the owner Jimmy gets on the phone and said to make my customer happy I will do your boat if I have to stay until 12 tonight. I said I don’t want to do that to you I can just take it somewhere else. He said no I will get it done. So the next day I get a phone call from Jimmy saying he couldn’t do it. He was gonna let another guy do it. Down the street. Highly recommend him. Needless to say the worse place I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I’ve sent several of my family members to east coast customs. Then the first time I use them what a disaster. My boat is in worse shape than when I dropped it off. So now I have to take it somewhere else to get it fixed. I only got 4 speakers installed it was supposed to be 6. The sub rattles when you turn it up and the cover to the radio is falling off. Well was trying to give Jimmy another chance made another appointment. To get my windows tented. Needless to say. This place is a joke. Don’t see how he stays in business. I will make sure anyone that ask me for audio or tenting do not use them. Poor customer service. I did buy 4 speakers after the last bad service. Had them installed by...
Read moreI had had some work done here in the past. I tinted the windows in my 2006 mazda 3. I also had a head unit in my 2003 Infiniti. So when my dad wanted to install a stereo system in his 1968 gtx i sent him here. They sold him an alpine system including a head unit 4 type 2 speakers 2 amps and a 12in subwoofer. The work looked great they hid the headunit in the glove box and amps were mounted behing the back seat. But it did not take long to notice the static. So we call them and bring it back down and drop it off they looked it over and said it was probably a problem with the car. We took it too the mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong. So we brought it back again at this point they were very rude and condescending complained about all the money they had lost having to take time too look at the car again and they asked us not to come back problem still unresolved. We had spent alot of money on this system. So we took it to a different shop in duluth where they found not only was the head unit grounded to the dash not the chassis and also both amps were improperly grounded together and too the trunk top instead of the chassis. All these ground problems lead to the out puts on the back of the head unit burning up. So finally the problem is resolved and the car sounds crystal clear no thanks to east coast customs. I would not recommend these guys to anyone it may have looked good but who want to pay to fix this stuff...
