This is truly a fun-for-all event.
I was looking for something fun to do to with my sisters. Because I live near Woodinville wine country, I started looking for a Painting/Wine class. My 5 Sisters were all in, but not the hubbies.
Then I found MoltenWorks Glass Studio. And suddenly we went from 5 people wanting to go ... to 10. Not sure if it was the idea of fire and melting glass that brought the guys on board, that didn't matter, I was glad that everyone was excited about doing it.
Their website was easy to navigate, I booked the group for the Friday evening class.
When we all arrived our work table was reserved and set up all the tools needed. Then a quick 15 minute introduction to the process and we were off.
Everyone's pieces turned out great, thanks to the instructors stopping by the table and helping us out.
Once you're finished creating your work, the studio takes a week to complete your work, which basically involves fusing everything into one finished piece.Ā So that next week I stopped by to pick up everyone's art work. So awesome, it was like Christmas seeing everyone reaction to how their glasswork turned out!
The comment I got from everyone was "let me know when you want to do this...

Glass art is intimidating and I had no idea what to expect. However, there is a tutorial on the different types of glass you can use to arrange your art and the many tools you can use, from shards you can shave and cut down to fine glass in grains of sand.
Once the glass is arranged on its block, someone comes and puts it in the oven for a 16 hour bake. In about a week, you are able to pick up your art piece.
I was able to create something with existing pieces of glass but my friends were able to create landscapes, designs and flowers using tools their first time.
All the while, I enjoyed a cherry cider. Keep the cover on the top so when small bits of glass fly, it doesn't land in your beverage.
We all loved it and spent the entire time there creating and marveling at other pieces of art work.
I can't stop thinking about going back and trying a Jim Morrison silhouette (they do portrait classes)!
Saturday nights there is...

I had pointed to the top of my piece for where I wanted the hook to go, and they placed it on the side of the art, and I watched the gentlemen helping me place the paper at the top before we left. When contacted about the error, they said that's where the paper was marked, and there was nothing they could do. Not sure why they think I would put the hook on the side so it's hanging sideways. They basically told us that it was my fault, and they wouldn't help us in fixing it in any way.
The people who were teaching the class/serving drinks were incredibly nice, which is why I find this so disappointing (and I don't want to do a super low star rating because it comes down to being an honest mistake). I guess just take pictures of where your paper with the arrow on it is from every angle prior to leaving, otherwise you'll be stuck with sideways art that might as well be...
