It's a nice place to go with kids with different playgrounds, a little farm, bees, lakes, special bikes terrain for kids to play in a safe zone, pedalo for kids starting 6yo, etc.
There is one natural playground, and then there are different playgrounds with sand (the typical ones).
There are two playgrounds with watee, one little Ploeterbad for babies or smaler kids anz one big one for sunny days. This is an outdoor artificial lake whit a playground where kids can have lot of fun. You have to pay attention because there are deeper spots with no indication.
There is also an outdoor swimming pool for which you need to do a reservation, you need to be quick ;)
There are two time slots in the morning and one in the afternoon. The water temrpature is most of the time 26°C and the highest spots are 1m30.
Enough little bars/ restaurants to buy ice cream, burgers etc. (We didn't find healthy alternatives though, no fruits or so for kids, but hey you can take it with you too ;) ) recently saw there are also sandwiches !
Also take good shoes for the kids so they can have fun without bothering there is sand or mud in their shoes :p
And also never a bad idea to take spare clothes for them :)
We also went to Hal 5, 5 min with the car to have some good food (at Falafel habibi)

Adorable, public park with Immaculate walkways winding through the two pristine lakes which domineers the area.
The park is girdled with strategically located free parking spaces. (3 euro an hour during summer)
My girlfriend and I were down for a brisk walk on new years day and enjoyed the relaxing, peaceful atmosphere.
After a long walk and several chat topics, the sun broke through the mist, instantly heating our countenance and lifting our sprits.
The park is dotted with several playgrounds for children and during summer an outdoor swimming pool and water bikes on the lake turn out to be very popular attractions.
Public lavatory are few and far between, but were clean and tidy.
A hidden gem and perfect venue to escape the nearby bustling city of leuven, enlightening mind and spirit!

Used to be a great recreational domain with various playgrounds for kids. Electric boats and an electric cars track. Ten yeats ago it was well kept with beautiful borders and flowerbeds. Now it is overgrown with weeds, brambles, reeds and nettles The ponds are clogged with stinking algae and sludge. There are no rowing boats The playground is a joke and "work" to refurbish it has been going on for ages. There is absolutely nothing for small kids to do. It is a dump.

Stunning park for a lovely stroll, with a restaurant and cafe for refreshments, boating in the summer as well, play area for the kids and seating to just sit and enjoy the birds and views of the lake and surrounding areas. Have to pay for parking now but nice car park and it's only a few euros for the day. They also have a skate park, football and tennis courts and an area with donkeys and goats. Beautiful place, you won't be disappointed.

Very calm and relaxing place to stroll, run, spend time with family and kids, and also to play sports. There is an opportunity to swim in the swimming pool as well as renting the pedals to have some chill time on the water. There are domestic animals in the park which attracts people. Highly recommended to visit specially in the weekend.

Very big and nice kept piece of heritage. Has an authentic feel to it. A lot of it is public, but even the private gardens are pretty to admire from the little cobblestone streets. (those streets are a bit too impractically uneven which cause you to hobble through, but it is a car free zone). By night it's only lit by lanterns hanging on the houses, so it can get quite dark. The houses are inhabited by students and professors from KU Leuven only, for a max term of 3 years, which I think is a nice way to treat the material heritage of a city. Don't miss the church, the Spanish Quarter and take your time on the little bridges across the Dijle. There are a few guides who give excellent guidance with historical information (and who are dressed accordingly).

A must-see historical site if you want to see a wonderfully restored old village compound once inhabited by hundreds of women from the religious order of the beguines. The beguinage covers a relatively large area intertwined with a river, a lot of green, magnificent historical buildings and the beguin church, open to the public. The site is inhabited by a few happy students and university professors who would be pleased with a bit of silence. In other words: a tourist location but no typical attraction for noisy kids or anyone looking for a coffee place, restaurant or souvenir shop. Only paid parking spots can be found in the near vicinity. Wheelchair access is challenging since the compound is paved with cobblestones.

The begijnhof neighborhood in Leuven is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site (along with other begijnhofs in Flanders). It feels as though you’re stepping back in time while walking through the immaculately well-maintained streets admiring the old stone roads and the red brick buildings. A professor at the local university informed us that the residents are a mix of established locals as well as university students. Irrespective of the profiles of the neighborhood’s inhabitants, it is extremely serene, quiet and feels safe even walking alone late at night. While it is a good hike from the train station and a bit away from the center of town, make the trip to the begijnhof for a step back in time.

I’ve been to Begijnhoven all over Belgium. Probably because it is a mostly-Dutch/Belgian concept, but still. All of them have the same characteristics (green grass courtyards for washing clothes, little houses right next to each other and cosy streets, a church on the grounds, etc..) but what makes this one special is not-hidden in the name. It is pretty big. The one in Antwerp and Tongeren are small in comparison (not less cute though).
You’d be amiss not to stroll through this serene and walled-in area of Leuven, stubbing your toes against the cobblestones and wondering if people still live here (spoiler: a lot of students still do).

I strolled through the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven and instantly felt its centuries-old charm. As I entered through the main gate, those traditional sandstone buildings and winding cobblestone lanes made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Each house, some with striking crow-stepped gables and tiny old windows, reveals layers of history and story. The peaceful courtyards and scenic river views added to the atmosphere. This restored “town-within-a-town” is a unique place and quiet yet full of character, offering an authentic glimpse into Leuven’s past and the life once led by its beguines.

This park is a must if you come to Leuven, you can visit it for free!! The monastery was settled in the century 18th and was the center of the economy of this area back in those days. Based on agriculture and husbandry. Now a days, it's still working and the surroundings areas of the buildings are open to visitors. There's a restaurant and a shop, both temporary closed due to Covid-19.
The inner side on the main building faces 3 ponds, that is thel home of some fauna such as swans (white and black), wild ducks among other birds. It's easy to see them in the ponds... The sight is more than beautiful! For that reason, you must be aware that it's not allowed to walk your dog, ride your bicycle or make a big noise that can disturb the animals. Remember being always respectful
What to do there? It's perfect for a walk, a relaxing afternoon of picnic with your friends or simply to admire the wonderful architecture.

This Norbertine Abbey was recently renovated (still finishing), but already shows the stunning ceiling sculpurs of the eating place and library in full glory. Special sofa's allow you to admire every detail. The stained glass collection and architecture of the stairs and corridors are only adding more gradiosity to this building. Take your time to listen to the audioguide; unless you are short of time, skipping the attic museum explaining religious tidbits does not spoil the experience. Many guides and guards are more than happy to give you more context and interesting views on the property and the monastic life of this place. The surrounding lake offers a nice hiking trail. Free car parking places available on-site. All visitor areas are wheelchair-friendly.

Exquisite with a history of 900 years, there are many rich historical and cultural heritage, including holy paintings, documents and holy relics, which are very inspiring to understand the history of Christianity and the truth of the Bible. The tour guide is very friendly and answers questions. The ceiling relief The Last Supper is one of a kind, art and faith lovers, worth seeing!

Great park around an old restored abbey, ideal for a run or a stroll on a sunny day! Incredible view on the pond at the heart of the complex. The only (minor) flaw is the endless presence of little building sites, which sometimes spoil the view with ugly fences here and there. Nice (upscale) brasserie in the abbey, too. Very recommended!
