My friend came across this place as she smelled the most amazing aroma coming from this small restaurant. She wandered in, purchased wine and was treated to a bruchetta by Felix, the owner. She decided we had to go there to eat... We were seated upstairs in an ambience that resembled a cozy living room. The place settings reminded me of eating at my grandmothers house for a special meal where all the best china is used. Since we couldn't decide on what plates to order, they arranged a variety for us to taste and enjoy. Everything was prepared with such care. The quality of the ingredients used in each dish is noteworthy and the combination of flavors selected with care. This is a great place to go with your significant other or with friends. All dishes are meant to be shared which gives you an opportunity to try the diversity they offer. Fresh, top quality ingredients are used. I highly recommend the hummus and quinoa salad with goat cheese. Save room for dessert, the coconut icecream with toasted coconut shavings and goat dulce de leche is divine. The service is all around welcoming. Truly an experience that leaves a warmth in your soul. Highly recommended... stop in even if it is just for a snack as the portions are purposefully small so you can try all their wonderful creations. Pair your meal with a great wine and be ready to spend a few amazing hours. Value for quality is correct. I wouldn't say it's inexpensive but worth...
Read moreWorking for the New York Times, I’m able to travel globally and try out some of the greatest restaurants across the world. In Argentina, one of my recommended must stops is Bankedo Plaza. It is a wide array of different tastes from Argentina accompanied by some of the best wine pairings I’ve had in the region. The service was impeccable and I highly recommend trying these dishes and you can even share them as well - Keppe al horno is solid. You can never go wrong with empanadas. The eggplant is excellent - one of my favorite dishes I tried. The hummus feels fresh. And if you are a cheese lover the Queso Ahumado is a must. There’s also a quaint intimacy to the place - while it’s two levels it has the intimacy of one and everyone who is dining in a pair or in a group feels like they have their own private space to just enjoy each other’s company. I’ve been to 5 places in Argentina so far since I got here earlier this week and this gives me such a calm, home vibe with the accompaniment of excellent food and wine. Highly recommend this as a stop. You won’t be...
Read moreBankedo is a gem, a great new neighborhood place with surprisingly flavorful food, boutique wine, and an intimate atmosphere.
The food menu features diverse small plates with Mediterranean influences including Italy, Spain, and Lebanon/Syria. Other dishes highlight regional foods from the north of Argentina. In a city where a steady diet of carne, milanesa, and fugazetta can drag you down, the freshness and variety of ingredients at Bankedo is a bright spot.
Due to its connection to a nearby wine shop by the same name, Bankedo has an excellently curated wine list featuring a wide range of varietals from all three major wine growing regions of Argentina. The focus is on quality and value with a mix of the best large scale producers along with many labels from small independent bodegas.
Ultimately though, the attention to detail and hospitality of the owner and staff elevate the experience to another level. Despite the modern and stylish decor, the atmosphere is that of a neighborhood,...
