KOI Dumplings - Lavalleja — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

Koi doesn’t really need my review, but they also really need my review. The food is awesome and they’re busy, but the experience at first was very unwelcoming. We arrived Saturday at 12:30–early for most pórtenos for lunch. Of the 30 tables in the restaurant, 3 were occupied—and ALL the rest had “Reserved” signs on them. The waiter/host with pink hair told us all the tables were reserved. We asked to put our names on the waiting list and we were told to come back in an hour. An hour later we returned and none of the “reserved” tables were occupied (which means we could have been served in that time). Pink hair never put our names down. Another waitress/host told us we could sit on the (uncomfortable) barstools. Five minutes later I flagged pink hair down to ask for a menu. Pink hair makes you feel like you’re interrupting him. Our waitress was efficient and the food was quick to come out. The food was amazing, absolutely AMAZING, but the encounter with pink hair made what should have been an amazing experience less so. Good food with good service makes a great restaurant. Great food, as they have at Koi, with one unpleasant server negatively impacts your perception of the restaurant. Fuimos ayer, Sabado, con mi marido y 3 amigos. Llegamos a las 15/16 hs y pudimos encontrar lugar para comer.

Voy a hablar de lo que yo probé.

Pedi (junto a mi marido para probar)

Ramen (el número 1 del menú): a mi personalmente NO me gustó. Me pareció muy fuerte el caldo, muy invasivo. Todo con el mismo sabor amargo y fuerte. Los fideos estaban un toquecito crudo, le faltaba un poquito más para que esté al dente.

Baos (de Hongos): lo mismo, muy fuerte, invasivo el sabor de uno de los hongos, el que le ponen mucha cantidad (quizas si le ponen menos, y mas de los otros no seria tanto) pero pude comer uno sin esa sensacion desagradable. Lo que estaba afuera, esa zanahoria con vinagre me gustó mucho.

Buns (el que tiene Ojo de Bife): es por esto que le pongo fuerte estrellas al local. Estaba exquisito. Me encanto! Riquísimo. Desde el pan, la carne suave, el relleno justo. Viene acompañado de papas (eso pedi yo) que estaban 'viejas' pero se podian comer.

Gaseosas: venden latas.

Ahora vamos por la otra parte:

Atención: excelente, el muchacho que nos atendio muy cordial, buena onda y siempre dispuesto a ayudarnos a elegir (primera vez) y a nuestra disposición.

Rapidez: el plato tardo entre unos 40 minutos y una hora, considerando que pedimos 4 ramen, 3 baos y 1 buns. No estaba lleno el local, asi que medio lento la cocina.

Lugar: chico, aceptable si vas de pasada por unos tragos y ya te vas, pero si se llena debe ser muy engorroso, ya que las distancias entre una mesa y otra son cortitas.

Baño: extremadamente CHICO. Nadie entra en ese baño. Destaco que estaba limpio, tenia papel higiénico y jabón.

Limpieza: tanto del local en general, mesas y demas como el baño estaban limpios. Los mozos mantenian limpio y todo listo. Destaco esto porque no en todos los locales pasa.

La pasamos bien. Gastamos entre 5 personas en total 2700 pesos y pudimos comer relativamente bien. No consumimos alcohol, tengan en cuenta.

Volveriamos? Podria ser. El ambiente esta bueno para...

This restaurant is very low profile but the food is very tasty and spicy.

Steamed Dumplings are really relicious and well seasoned.
