Tomate Estación de Sabores — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

Very mediocre food and poor service. The focaccia they brought out at the beginning was inedible and inconsistent, alternating between very soggy and very hard. We ordered 3 small plates and a main dish to share. Tortilla and buñuelos were fine but the garbanzo hummus was pretty bad- mushrooms on top were chewy and cold. Then we waited for about 45 minutes and nothing happened. It was very difficult to get a server’s attention. When we asked about our meat entree, we were told 15 more minutes. At that point our friend had to leave for a show because we had been there for an hour and 40 minutes already. We asked if they could just cancel the order but they said they couldn’t and offered to let us take it to go. We were fine with this initially but when they brought it out we realized it was a dish we did not order. When we confronted the server, she got defensive and argued with us, saying that she confirmed the order with us at the beginning (which she did not). We chose this restaurant based on its high ratings, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to expectations. After placing our order, our table was essentially ignored. We requested to move outside because our baby was getting fussy, and we didn’t want to disturb other guests. Once we relocated, our server never checked on us — not even once.

Fifty minutes after ordering, I had to approach the server myself to ask about the status of our food. She said she would check, but she never followed up, never apologized for the delay, and never ensured we had water or drinks. The food finally arrived shortly after I inquired, and we had to flag down a runner just to get the check.

We’re left wondering — was it because we had a baby? Because we were tourists and didn’t speak Spanish fluently? Or was it just an off day for the server? Regardless, the lack of attentiveness made this a disappointing visit.

El día viernes 18/07 fuimos a cenar tres personas. Lamentablemente, era una cena por mi cumpleaños que comenzaba a las 00:00. Aclararé todo lo que salió mal ese día:

Atención pésima de la moza, que no tengo idea por qué, pero toda la noche, desde que nos sentamos, estuvo intentando que nos fuéramos. Nos apuró para realizar el pedido, nos apuró retirando el pan que traen de entrada, cuando aún yo lo estaba comiendo. He ido otras veces a Tomate y el pan, en general, lo dejan en la mesa, así que no entendí su desesperación por levantarlo. Luego trajo los platos y vino a levantarlos aun cuando yo estaba comiendo. Otra vez, totalmente apurada. Cuando levanta todo, me pregunta si queríamos algo más, a lo que le respondo que en un ratito le pediremos algún postre. Ella nos dice “bueno” y luego dice “tengan en cuenta que a las 00:00 cierra la barra, si desean algo de ahí”. Luego, cuando le pedí, alrededor de las 23:50, el postre —que aclaro: yo elegí ir a esperar mi cumple a Tomate porque, sobre todo, quería comer el volcán de chocolate, como el año anterior—, ella nos responde: “yo les aclaré que la cocina cerraba a las 00:00”, y entonces todos pensamos que ella aclaró lo de la barra, pero nos dimos cuenta de que no servía debatir, porque la cocina claramente estaba cerrada y ella lo había comunicado mal. Además, en Instagram figura que el horario es hasta la 1:00 a. m. y que la barra es hasta las 2:00 a. m., por lo cual es todo muy confuso. Básicamente, a partir de allí hizo todo lo posible para incomodarnos más con su actitud y luego nos trajo la cuenta diciendo que cerraban en un ratito. Por lo que empezamos a ver cómo abonábamos y vino de nuevo a querer apurarnos, cuando no nos dio ni cinco minutos. Un desastre. Jamás pensé que me iba a arrepentir tanto de haber ido a Tomate a esperar mi cumple. Salió muy mal. En ese momento, ya mi amiga le respondió de mala gana (con justa razón) que espere, que estábamos dividiendo el dinero. Bueno, realmente terminé sin postre, siendo apurada todo el tiempo y, encima, con error en los horarios, incluso error de ella también, diciendo que cerraba barra y no cocina. Mala aclaración. Además, cabe aclarar que en Google figura que abren hasta las 2:00 a. m. Un error, porque nos echaron a las 00:30, con mi hermano aún terminando su bebida a las apuradas. No creo que tenga muchas ganas de volver a Tomate nuevamente después de esto. Me tomé el tiempo para que sepan que me hicieron sentir pésimo y que está bueno cuidar al cliente que elige una noche tan importante como su cumple... El manager (asumimos) que se encontraba en la zona de la barra mostró desinterés cuando supo de esto tampoco nos preguntó nada ni vino a disculparse por el error...
