Tres Monos offers a unique, quirky vibe, combining great drinks with an atmosphere that’s a little rebellious. As soon as you walk in, the dim lighting sets a moody tone—think pink neon accents, grungy touches, and a soundtrack that feels straight out of the late '90s and early 2000s rock scene.
Service here is a standout. The staff is not only friendly and welcoming, but they are also highly knowledgeable about the cocktails. They take the time to ask how you're enjoying each drink, offering a personal touch that makes the experience feel more like an interaction with enthusiasts than just a transaction.
When it comes to drinks, Tres Monos absolutely delivers. The cocktail menu is curated and ever-changing, offering a creative mix of flavors that cater to every taste. They’ve earned a reputation for crafting unique and smooth cocktails, often using their own in-house spirits and wines. If you're a fan of cocktails with character, this place definitely has you covered. And if you're in the mood for the classics, they can whip up those too—everything done with an eye for quality.
On the food front, I tried the milanesa sandwich, which was made with leftover asado—an interesting and clever take. The milanesa itself was tasty, but the bread, which was also fried, made the whole dish quite greasy. It’s a bit of a hit or miss in terms of balance, as the excessive greasiness might not sit well for some. At 16,000 pesos, it felt a bit overpriced, especially considering there were no sides like fries included. For the price, the portion size left a bit to be desired.
As for pricing, the cocktails are well-priced, especially considering their quality and the creative effort behind them. The food, however, doesn’t offer the same value. You might find yourself spending more than you'd expect for a meal that doesn’t quite measure up...
Read moreI am a bartender myself from The Netherlands, and have worked in some of the better cocktailbars in the world, namely in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, and Melbourne, Australia. I start with this not to bloat, but to back my review with experience and expertise. I was visiting this bar as a way to seek inspiration for my own cocktailbar, and since the bar was in the top 50 bars of the world I had very high expectations. In general I found the service lacking, the station wasn't prepared when we entered the room we were assigned to sit in, and there was staff still eating dinner there. Our waitress was very kind and very attentive though, and we enjoyed her service. Me and my companion had 2 drinks each, all drinks were heavily overdiluted, and when I ordered a wet gin martini with olives, without a lemon zest, using a sweeter style blanco vermouth like lillet or cocchi americano, they said they would make me a Vesper. When I said i didn't want any vodka, and do not like my martini shaked, they looked weirdly at me and told me mockingly they don't shake their martinis like I didn't know what a vesper martini was. It came to me heavily overdiluted and with a lemon zest, and when I told them I ordered olives with my martini, the bartender's response was "uhm yeah we don't usualy put olives in sweet drinks but if you want fine". I felt very much judged on my choice of drink, and mocked by the clearly arrogant bartender. When we paid our bill and left, none of the staff (except our kind waitress) thanked us or wished us a good evening. The bar definitely looks incredible, but with the low standards on service and drinks it leaves me wondering why this bar made the top 50 of the world. We went to Backroom Bar after, at which we received excellent service, and incredibly...
Read moreAs a cocktail lover married to a fellow cocktail lover - we have visited many of the top 50 ranked cocktail bars on our travels. We hail from London and Paris respectively as well so are well versed and spoilt for choice in bars. We have never experienced anything quite like Tres Monos before! The top 50 ranking is not just based on the quality of cocktails but the entire experience and Tres Monos 100% deserves its spot at 11 - I believe the exposure will only make them climb higher.
The vibe is non pretentious which is often hard to find in cocktail bars, the bartenders and servers genuinely look like they are having fun and provide exceptional service 👏
The cocktails are extremely affordable and use local ingredients and spirits like Fernet to put twists on traditional classics. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that they run a cocktail school in Barrio 31 (a marginalised neighbourhood in the Retiro area of BA) where graduates are given job opportunities and two former students now...
