Based on recommendations from our friends and the Google ratings, we decided to give this a try. Arrived about 9pm and had to wait in-line outside in the cold for over an hour. The door staff were kind enough to give us champagne, which kept us happy while we waited. Finally, we got to a table after 10pm to find the place to be very busy, noisy, and so dark it was difficult to see the menu. The table candles didn't help much with this either. The high tables and chairs were uncomfortable and difficult to sit on. Service was polite, but clearly, the staff were under pressure and really didn't have much time to explain anything. The food and drinks were expensive and not as fantastic as other reviews prepared us to expect. After our meal, we decided to finish our drinks in the library, but we were told (rudely) we couldn't consume anything there. Overall, it wasn't the experience we expected. I'd say it would be better to try this place during less busier hours. Either way, be prepared for an...
Read moreAmazing bar! I am a bartender myself from The Netherlands, and have worked in some of the better cocktailbars in the world, namely in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, and Melbourne, Australia. I start with this not to bloat, but to back my review with experience and expertise. The drinks were very professionaly crafted, and perfectly diluted. Flavours were new and inspiring, and the popcorn chicken we had as a snack was the best! The service was good, but a little slow sometimes, as it was completely full inside and outside and we (understandibly) had to wait for 10-15 minutes to order a drink. When we ordered though, the drinks came very quickly, and the quality of them made up for the wait. We visited this bar after we were badly dissapointed at Tres Monos, and this place saved our night, and turned it into an exciting cocktail experience. Highly recommend to everyone who likes incredibly good drinks, and doesn't mind paying a fair...
Read moreYou can tell the bartenders here know what they’re doing — definitely not YouTube-certified mixologists. The cocktails? Solid, that sweet spot between classic and modern. But the “Hay Café Café”? That one’s elite, like if a mixologist and a barista had a highly-caffeinated baby and raised it in a speakeasy.
The WiFi is faster than emotional commitment in this city, and they accept contactless payments — which is perfect, because no one wants to touch sweaty cash in a place this classy.
Everything was going smoothly until I saw something at the bar… the kind of thing that reminds you even paradise has mosquitoes. It was an awkward moment; not enough to ruin the night, but just enough to make you think, “ehhh, time to go.” So yeah, it was fun… but like a first date with someone gorgeous who can’t shut up about their ex: Hard pass...
