Charming Atmosphere and Friendly Service at Pietro's Cafe El Calafate
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
I recently visited Pietro's Cafe in El Calafate and was impressed by the charming decor, featuring antique coffee machines that added a unique touch to the ambiance.
Despite the language barrier, the staff was exceptionally friendly, and our waitress made a commendable effort to help us navigate the menu. Our order was a bit off, likely due to the communication challenge, but the overall experience was positive.
The pizza slices were surprisingly generous in size, though the taste leaned more towards bread than the traditional pizza base I'm accustomed to. Unsure if this is the Argentinian pizza style, but it was an interesting introduction for a first-timer in Argentina. On the flip side, the double shot coffee was a delightful burst of flavors, showcasing their expertise in coffee preparation.
Observing other tables, it was evident that Pietro's offers enticing dessert options. While I found the food slightly above average, the standout was the warm and friendly service, coupled with a pleasant atmosphere. Read moreOne thing I learned as I’ve been traveling in Argentina, is that service in restaurants are slow. They will not bother you unless you call them over and they will not rush you to get you out of the way. if you feel like you’re not being helped enough, all you have to do is call a server over.
We walked in thinking we were just going to get coffee, but ended up getting some food as well as beer. A weird combination, yes.
Café con Leche was not the best I’ve had in Argentina but pretty up there. The media Luna with ham and cheese was also not the best I’ve had, but pretty up there.
We also had fries, which was a sizable amount, enough to share. Their bottle of beers were big enough to share, but the guys had a bottle each. By lunchtime, they had run out of croissants.
We ended up sitting there for a few hours, but no one rushed us or given us the fish eye.
Overall, a lovely day with awesome food and...
Read moreAs I read other reviews I am honestly confused what some people's dining experiences have been. The food most certainly does not qualify as delicious, it is very much average. The prices are over the top and the service lacked positivity. Their big breakfast was 4 pieces of toast (all good), 2 pieces of bacon (all fat), a small side of scrambled eggs (very small and zero flavor) and a black coffee. That was 20,000 pesos. Most all of their menu was overpriced and they were very much about getting you in and out of the door. Looking around the cafe I noticed three other tables staring at their bills and chatting amongst themselves with disgust at the cost. We had extra charges on our bill which they removed when we told them but overall I wouldn't ever give them another chance to overcharge me for mediocre service...
