We had an absolutely amazing experience and one of a kind day tour with the team from Kayak Santa Cruz! We first met Nadia at their site right next to the Main Street in El Calafate. She gave us a full breakdown of the experience and answered all the questions we had.
Sebastian and Fede hosted our tour experience and they were both amazing guides through the beautiful Rio La Leona.
Sebastian is super knowledgeable of both the nature and archeological aspects of the area. He was more than a tour guide! He gave us a whole lesson on history, archeology and even some chemistry in the mix. For the kayaking Sebastian was very gentle and patient at guiding us through the river and even rapids. The instructions to use the equipment were delivered very well. Every step was clear and easy to apply once on the kayak.
Meanwhile, Fede made sure to get great shots as we went through the river with some unforgettable sceneries.
The tour itself consisted of 2 hours of kayaking, 2 hours of hiking/trekking, and about 2.5 hours on the road.
Overall everyone was really friendly and welcoming which made for a very personable and warm experience.
As far as the River, this is a must see/experience activity. This is one of the cheaper tour options in town and it is by far under rated!! Specially if you go with the Kayak Santa Cruz team, it will surpass your expectations.
We are already considering going on the 6 day Kayak experience next time we...
Read moreWe booked this trip to try and see another side to El Calafate and we were not disappointed! It was amazing. They picked us up from the hotel and drove us to the starting point. On the way they showed us photos of the wildlife we could expect to see. They provided us with all the equipment we needed. Full wet suit etc. We were in double kayaks. It was a wonderful way to explore the area. We went down stream so it wasn't too challenging. Condors circled overhead. We stopped on a river bank to change into dry clothes, hung out the clothes to dry and then walked through the petrified landscape. Fossils, dinosaur bones and petrified trees were all pointed out. The guides spoke excellent English, were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the geology, fauna and flora. Lots of opportunities to take fantastic photos. We lunched above the river we'd kayaked down. Beautiful. The team offered traditional Mate tea and with local buscuits. Then we went back to the kayaks and continued down the river. At the end they cracked open a beer for us all to toast the trip. Then we came back to the hotel. I can't recommend this trip highly enough. A complete contrast to the previous days trip to the glacier. Thank you very much to the team for making the day...
Read moreOne of my favorite things that I did in Argentina. Kayaked the Leona River with a stop in the middle for some light hiking to see petrified wood and dinosaur bones. Easy to set up, good communication. Friendly staff (Eduardo the guide and Nadia in the front office) who speak English. They pick you up in El Calafate (we had a car, so we drove in to meet them at the river, about halfway between El Calafate and El Chalten; detailed map and instructions provided for meeting location if you drive yourself). The company also provides you full gear, so you’re still comfortable in cold weather (wetsuits, booties, jackets, skirt for the kayak, life jacket). The paddles even had covers for your hands. Be sure to bring shorts or leggings to wear under the wetsuit. They also give you a dry bag to pack a change of clothes (and your lunch) for the short hike. They provide clear instructions on safety and how to paddle before you get in the water. 2 guides in single kayaks for 4 double kayaks of participants. Would highly recommend you take a day and go on this tour. The guide also takes photos of you and sends you a link (free). Had a great time,...
