Brix Bar — Restaurant in Ushuaia

Casual dining, e.g., cafeteria food. Pleasant room on a busy corner on the Main Street of tourist commerce in Ushuaia. They serve passable, if uninteresting food, and you can fill your belly for less than a lot of the other tourist traps that are nearby. My ravioli came with a strand of steel, apparently, from a scrubbing brush in the kitchen. I pointed it out to the waitress, who basically said “ i’ll let them know“. No apology, no offer of a complementary dessert or other accommodation… This was kind of disappointing since I only found this dangerous addition to my dish by accident. I searched through the dish carefully to make sure there were no other unwanted objects before eating my ravioli. The ravioli itself was fine, spinach, ravioli with a pink sauce that was decent and the dish was served with a large roll. That was nice for dipping in the sauce. Like many of the restaurants around here, are they seem to be prepared for, and cater to large groups of tourists, there was a table of about 20 people next to us. They are accustomed to dealing with foreigners, there is an English menu, and the young lady at the front tells you to make your selections and then go up to the cash register to order and pay for your meal. The place is clean, large windows, looking out on the busy streets surrounding. I am deducting one star because of my negative feeling about the stainless steel in my dish...

Fuimos con mi pareja a cenar. Tuvimos una muy mala experiencia. Ingresamos y consultamos si pasaban por la televisión un partido de fútbol, la moza muy amable le preguntó a un empleado mayor que se encontraba detrás del mostrador e hizo gestos de “no se ni me importa” a lo que ella incómoda nos dijo “si está el partido seguro lo pasan”. Nos sentamos igual. Cuando nos sentamos y elegimos qué comer, mi novio fue a abonar a la caja (ese es el sistema) y nuevamente consultó por el partido a lo que este empleado contestó “falta mucho, es 21:30” (eran 20:20) mi novio respondió “no, es 20:30” y él no levantó la vista. Esta persona puso el partido, 20:29, como para sentir quizás que no se había equivocado cuando fuimos sumamente amables al preguntarles. En cuanto a la comida, nos llevamos nuevamente un fiasco, más que nada yo. Mi novio se pidió una Hamburguesa Brix (o nombre similar), estaba ok, pero quizás uno espera que al ser un restó y por lo precios (aprox $12.000) la hamburguesa sea casera, y no era el caso, era un medallón procesado. El problema fue mi panini “criollo”, el cual estaba compuesto de jamón crudo, queso, tomates confitados y aceite de oliva: tenía menos de una feta de jamón crudo, y no exagero, le saqué fotos. Era un pedazo de una única feta super finita y ni si quiera completa. Tampoco eran tomates confitados, era una sola rodaja de tomate cortada en 3 pedazos, y caliente solo porque el queso que lo acompañaba estaba derretido. El valor del panini era $8.500… me sentí desilusionadísima y disconforme. Optamos por no reclamar porque nos sentimos incómodos en general. Otra cosa a mejorar, es que te traen una sola servilleta de papel por persona a la mesa, aunque la comida tenga aceite o grasa. Tuvimos que pedirle varias veces al mozo más. El lugar tiene todo el potencial para ser mejor, está bien ubicado, la esquina es bellísima, sus ventanales también y la oferta en la carta variada. Ojalá si algún puedan subsanar este tipo de situaciones porque pueden ser mucho mejor. Pero al menos con esta experiencia, no recomendamos el lugar ni tampoco...

Walked in here because we were hangry. Most restaurants in Ushuaia take a super long break between 3pm to 7pm, so there are not many open places to eat for those 4 hours. The place looks like a Panera Bread back home; there is a big dude at the cash register taking orders. The food is actually expensive for what you get. I paid $4200 peso for a seafood rice plate that was luke warm. The burger and pasta were not much better.

This place is pretty; has convenient hours; service is actually pretty good; location is great. BUT the food...
