FAKE OLIVE OIL AND A CHIPPED TOOTH It was just after 8Pm on a Sunday. I walked along San Martin for a place that served seafood. I saw the menu and they had seafood. The waiter was pleasant and there was a large party seated so I thought it was a safe place to eat. I ordered the empanada centolla, a enselada mixta and the merluza negra. The empanada centolla was fried but it was fine. Then the camarero brought the oil and vinegar for the salad. The oil was in an unmarked bottle so I tried the oil and it didn't taste like Olive oil. The camarero asked if everything was ok and I said the oil didn't taste like olive oil. He said it was but just didn't have a strong taste. He then brought me a bottle of olive oil in a marked bottle with a brand name. This tasted like olive oil.
Then he brought the salad which was iceberg lettuce and lots of chopped tomatoes. I had hoped for a decent salad. The camarero asked if I wanted to take it away and I said yet. Then he came with the fish. I sprayed a little salt on the fish. Then after my third bit I felt and heard a loud crunch. I felt for a stone or something hard and I spat out a round white pebble. I didn't think anything of it but after I finished the fish and my tongue touched my lower teeth it felt rough not naturally smooth. I thought there was some food covering my tooth rationalizing why my bottom front tooth was rough. But then I realized that my tooth was chipped from the earlier crunch on the pebble.
I don't know if they put something in the fish because I complained or they just are not careful preparing the food. Either way I warn anyone NOT to go to this restaurant. I've never chipped a tooth in a restaurant before. This was an unfortunate experience I have to go to a dentist now because my tooth feels so...
Read moreAs a restaurant owner I particularly hate leaving poor reviews. However, that this place somehow has 4 stars is beyond me. This was the worst meal I’ve had in recent memory, and I ate a hamburger on the W trek. The calamari was clearly fresh and looked decent, but was not crunchy in any way nor served with any dipping sauce. It’s essentially a large plate of squid that seems like it’s been boiled rather than fried. Perhaps that’s the local style, I couldn’t say. The cannelloni with “moustacchio” sauce was the least appetizing dish in terms of presentation I have perhaps ever been served. The taste was as it appeared, whoever created this “moustacchio” sauce should be roasted in the asador. This place is entirely too pretentious for how completely awful the food was. I am still starving, having eaten the bread rather than continuing with the calamari and cannelloni. I’ll say this, it seems that the meat items are more central to the menu and that’s what appears on most of the positive reviews. Do not mess with the pasta nor calamari. I ate dog soup in ‘Nam that had little tufts of hair on it and that was better than this meal. Service was great, beer was cold, prices were fine had the food been palatable, the place was clean and appropriately appointed. I so wanted to give 2 stars but it couldn’t be done, someone needs to be the voice of reason for this rating and in terms of the food it was absolutely a one...
Read moreUpon arrival we were the 2nd group to arrive but soon the place filled up. Husband ordered Cordero asado with fries and I ordered the parmesan crab and my daughter the spaghetti Italiano. All was good except for the French fries that tasted like they had freezer burn before cooked and my parmesan crab. Every bite was difficult to eat as I crunched through shells that I had to spit out continuously. After 5 bites and lots of watery cream sauce, my husband agreed to send it back. Told waiter my complaint and was advised no shell but maybe cartilage. I showed him the spiky shell I pulled out of my dish but then he looked annoyed and walked away. He returned minutes later with a menu to allow me to order something else, which I did, the grilled salmon. This was much improved although a bit dry but ate it anyway without complaint. My daughter loved the spaghetti, btw. Overall, I was not impressed but was happy to find a decent restaurant for shelter and warm food as it was blistering...
