In the 3 months I've been in Adelaide I have visited this place almost 10 times. That in itself is a testament to the quality of this place. Taste wise, nice spicy mala style stir fry. Not overly numbing as certain ones I've had before, might be due to localisation but it works and it's good. Broad choice of ingredients for all dietary options. You can easily go without meat as all the vegetable options go so well with the sauce. Aside from the default celery, capsicum and potato slices (delicious), we normally do more potato slices, bamboo shoots, enoki mushrooms, assorted veggies, sometimes some tofu options, fish fillet for her and beef slices for me. However there are a lot more options available from 3 to 8 dollars per option. The portions is another great thing about this place. 1 portion of beef at about 6 dollars is enough to feed 3 people in conjunction with other ingredients. They just pile it in! Extremely high value as we normally order a few ingredients costing about 45 dollars of which we can only finish half. We then take away the other half for lunch the next day. This has become a ritual for us and something we look forward to after eating here. As you can see from the photos, humongous! The weekday lunch set which unfortunately I am unable to access normally is similarly of great value. Less than 10 dollars for that glorious pile of beef and veges. This place gets packed so dont expect prompt service but I've had good experiences so far, at least not bad ones. We were offered a table swap to accommodate some new guests and they very kindly gave us a jug of delicious plum drink in return.

Hands down one of the best places to pick-and-choose-your-ingredients-to cook-in-a-delicious-broth places in Adelaide. It's slightly different to the likes of 18th St and Chao Chow whereby you choose your noodles/broth/ingredients by marking on their menu (like when ordering yum cha), rather than choosing from a variety of ingredients displayed near the cashier. The soup here was distinctly different to the malatang we usually get, but was still delicious. I'd say it's more szechuan like without the pepperes being too overpoweing. In fact I think it gave the dish a nice little kick of spiciness that the dish needed especially during that cold, wet nigth when we were there. We actually selected too many ingredients for one pot that they split our dishes into two bowls FOC! Serving was generous (as you can see) and ingredients were fresher than some of those you get from other hot pot places. It is definitely our new go to place for hot pot; we will also be back to try other dishes on their menu.

My favorite dry hotpot restaurant in Adelaide Chinatown. The service is always excellent and the servers are constantly proactive in refilling water or rice. A great feature of the menu is that unlimited rice is offered for $2 / person. The dry and soup hotpot are reasonably priced and offer phenomenal customization options as you can choose exactly what you prefer in the hotpot. For first time goers, do consider that when selecting spice level, the restaurant offers a "milder than mild" option upon request. I highly recommend that you consider this option if you have low spice tolerance. I've eaten here in a group of 7 people and after ordering one dry hotpot and satisfying ourselves, the total came out to about $11/person which is amazing considering the quality and quantity of food.

Absolutely Disgusting, Unsafe, and Appalling Food – Avoid at All Costs!

We recently dined here as a group, and the experience was beyond horrifying. The food was nothing short of a disaster – bland, stale, and utterly inedible. The rice was dry and clumpy, the meat was overcooked and tasteless, and the vegetables were limp and clearly not fresh. We were already regretting our choice, but what we witnessed next was absolutely revolting.

The restaurant uses tiffins to serve rice, but what they do with those tiffins is shockingly unhygienic. We saw the staff taking used tiffins from other tables, not emptying or washing them, and simply refilling them with fresh rice to serve to the next customer. This means they are mixing old used rice with new rice in a used tiffin and serving it as “fresh.”

When we confronted the staff about it, they casually admitted to this disgusting practice without the slightest concern. This is a blatant health hazard and a serious violation of food safety standards. Warning to everyone: NEVER order rice here – whether dining in or taking away. You’re likely being served someone else’s leftovers mixed in with “fresh” rice. This is not just unhygienic; it’s a serious risk to health.

To make matters worse, several of us ended up with severe stomach issues and diarrhoea afterward. This place needs to be reported to health authorities immediately. If they’re comfortable reusing food containers without cleaning them, who knows what other unsanitary practices are going on in that kitchen? Appalling food, disgusting practices, and a complete disregard for customer health. Stay away unless you want to risk your health and...

An awful experience! We ordered 6 different add-ins into Maocai for two people. The waitress served 2 extra large bowls full of soup and veggies. We were shocked as we couldn't even finish one of them. I asked the waitress why didn't you remind us a bit if we ordered too much. She said she didn't know it could be this much. Alright. That's Ok. Maybe you really don't know. Later we had to take away a whole bowl of food and some rice. One waitress gave us the take away boxes. But after we put rice in one of the boxes and were about to pack them together, another waitress rushed towards us and grabed the rice box from my hand saying that the rice couldn't be took away. I was so shocked that my hand stopped in the air for a while. If this is not permitted, why couldn't you tell us before we took it. And after we took it, how bad would it be if you just let us take it. That amount of plain rice would just worth less than 2 dollars. Well, you may be new here and had to follow the rules strictly. That's Ok. But this is not the end. When we had the leftovers for dinner, a piece of chicken bone emerged from the Maocai while we didn't order any chicken. We felt so gross that the rest were dumped. I was just in Adelaide as a visitor. This would be onetime thing for me. Good luck with you if you happen to eat in...
