Loved this a year ago and went back last weekend to try their new menu, having been a regular visitor in the past 12 months. The wine list is still a dead-set killer, with a wide range of styles, varieties, and prices to please. But let's get to the food, because it's just been getting better. We had the rösti and the pork trotter croquettes to start, and these are both delicious and perfectly sized. The sheer decadence of the croquette is balanced by the finesse of its presentation and accompanying sauce. We then had the boudin blanc, a silky and delicious affair enhanced by the best cabbage I've had for months. Then it was on to a classic cassoulet, rich, warming, full of depth and deliciousness, and it was an absolute stunner, with some fried potato scratchings on the side. I don't usually eat dessert... but I do here. I have a soft spot for rhubarb and apple crumble and the one they serve here, with macadamia and oat coconut in the crumble, took me back through nostalgia, into adulthood, and reminded me how sophisticated the simple can be in the hands of experts. Wine was an unexpected Cabernet Franc on the recommendation of the delightful somm, Mathilde, who always has a good recommendation, whatever your palate or price point. We may have had some very well made amaretto sours to finish as we were celebrating and everything had been so good. You've probably noticed I don't review much but what I do review gets 5 stars. That's because I believe that anywhere that does really good things reliably should be recognised and if something isn't quite 5 stars, maybe I should come back another day. I never have to come back another day here. Give yourself a treat as the weather grows colder and come here for dinner. Try anything/everything, you'll have a good night.

You know when you go to a coffee shop and you sit down for a coffee with some friends and before you order they ask what type of water do you want? And you tell them, and they bring it out, you sip on it while you wait for your coffee, normal stuff right? then they notice you have drank it all, and they bring out a second bottle for the table, and you drink half of that, and leave the rest behind, yeah? Well this place charges you for that water! And never tell you that, and just automatically keep bringing it out ringing up your already expensive coffee bill, all the while never mentioning that water is not free. Not cool - for some reason i can't reply to your comment. our only water options were still or sparkling, no do you want wanter? but what do you want, still or sparkling? then a second bottle was brought out without asking. not usually looking at the menu when just ordering coffee, and i have never once scanned any menu ever to see how much the water costs.

Dinner at @aprayerforthewildatheart.adl from about a month ago: delicious food and lovely service, plus the ambiance was quite nice 🙂🙂. . Olive oil and thyme chargrilled octopus skewers: these octopus skewers were so good! Nice and tender and full of flavour 😍🤤. . Gravlax: refreshing flavours. Can't complain! . Parfait of duck liver: super smooth and tasty liver parfait 🤤🤤🤤. Absolutely fantastic! . Lamb rack with zucchini noodles and tempura zucchini flowers: the lamb was cooked to perfection. Tender and juicy 😍😍. . Spiced whole cauliflower: a really nicely done cauliflower. Lots of good flavours 🙂🙂. . Crispy potatoes: of course we couldn't resist the crispy potatoes 😅😅. . Almond and dark chocolate tart, tofu, passionfruit, coconut soil: very very interesting tart! Not too sweet, and lovely flavours. The only thing was the tart base being quite hard to cut, but it tasted great 😅.

It was the first time dining here for us on Sunday evening, but I’m not sure I would rush back anytime soon..

We started with a couple of the Summer cocktails which were lovely. SUPER tasty! The guava jam one was very reminiscent of a margarita.. delicious.

We did however found it a little tricky to navigate what was GF and what wasn’t. While the menu had (gf) written beside the menu items, it became evident that it wasn’t completely accurate. Dishes that were suitable weren’t labelled as GF, while one dish (Turkey Cordon Bleu) was labelled GF even though it wasn’t.. (according to a waitress)

When I initially approached the waitress serving us about what we could eat (it says at the top of the menu to have a chat with wait staff if you have any dietary requirements) she appeared bothered by the question and wasn’t helpful or generous with her knowledge about the menu and what would be suitable for us. I asked if she wouldn’t mind having a chat to the chefs for us if she wasn’t quite sure what we could have, but she quickly responded saying she “didn’t want to go through the whole menu with the chef to work out what was GF”.

I over heard this waitress say she’d worked Brekky and lunch so it had probably been a long day.. I work in hospo too, so I get it. But that doesn’t excuse the interaction we had with her at all.

When it came to placing our order, we thankfully had a new waitress (sweet girl with an Italian accent??) who was super lovely and really helpful , guiding us in the right direction and answering all of our questions. Towards the end of our experience we also had a really sweet guy serving us too. They remained on top of service for the remainder of our experience, checking in from time to time and seeing if there was anything else we needed. The attitude of the waitstaff makes such a difference. It was a good reminder for myself to remember this also!!

The food itself was okay, the creme brûlée...
