Booking online was easy enough — and that’s where the positives ended.
There were no dinner settings on our table — no cutlery, no napkins, no side plates, nothing. When I went to place our meal order, I wasn’t even given cutlery then. I noticed the menu said you could order via an app, but there was no QR code on the table and the venue couldn’t be found in the app at all.
I ordered drinks when I placed our meal order and was told they’d be brought to the table. Only the latte arrived. I had to go to the bar myself to get the Pepsi.
Then came the third trip to the bar — this time to ask for basic table settings. I was finally given cutlery, a napkin, and salt and pepper, but still no side plates.
Now, the meals.
I ordered a medium rump steak with Diane sauce on the side and garlic cream prawns on top — a surf and turf. My partner ordered a chicken schnitzel with double Diane sauce.
The rump steak, which cost over $40, was inedible. It wasn’t medium — it was well done, dry, and one of the fattiest cuts of meat I’ve ever been served. I didn’t eat it. I took it home in a container, and even my dog had trouble chewing it. The Diane sauce on the side was cold — not lukewarm, but stone cold.
My partner’s schnitzel didn’t come with the double Diane sauce as ordered. When I asked for it, the second serve of sauce that came out was completely different — thin, watery, and nothing like the thick, rich version that came with the meal.
To top it off, the menu on Google is completely wrong — it lists dishes that are no longer available, like the filet mignon, which is the whole reason we came in the first place. So not only were we misled, but we ended up paying for meals that were substandard and, in my case, barely edible.
For the price, the service, quality, and attention to detail were absolutely...

Read moreWe have been coming to the Modbury hotel for dinner for a while now and the food and service has always been on point up until now. I'm not sure if there is a new chef, front and back of house change up or new management but the food was terrible 😞 We opted to share some plates instead of getting just a main each. The Bao buns we're not great but better than the Chorizo croquettes which were very doughy and very not well presented, the consistency was horrible. What surprised us was the Salt and Pepper chicken, which I've had many times before, was undercooked and the coating was gross 🤢 The new menu isn't as good as the old one. If there are new staff in the kitchen we suggest they go over the menu and familiarize themselves with it because there were missing items when our food came out. The kids fish and chips were slimy and there was no sauce to be seen on the plate. Oh! And could someone please pay a small amount of attention to sharpening the kids colouring pencils...they were all blunt! I'm not sure if there was a new manager there last night but if I got wind that a customer had complained and asked for a refund; I would have been over to their table to get the feedback but not this manager. We have to give props to the young gentleman we spoke to about getting a refund. He was great, you can see that he knows what's going on and he was happy to listen and give us a refund on the shared plate items. Unfortunately, we won't be back 😔 which is a shame because it used to be...
