The Modbury Hotel, located in the heart of Modbury, South Australia, is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. It's a sprawling watering hole with a TAB sports bar, gaming lounge, and a bistro offering classic pub grub. The hotel has recently undergone a $5 million renovation, which has given it a fresh, modern look. The bistro has been completely revamped, with new furniture, décor, and an updated menu. The sports bar and gaming lounge have also been refreshed, and the hotel now has a dedicated function space. The food at the Modbury Hotel is generally good. The menu features a wide range of pub classics, such as burgers, steaks, pizzas, and pasta dishes. The pork ribs are great! There are also a number of vegetarian and vegan options available. The prices are reasonable, and the portion sizes are generous. The service at the Modbury Hotel is friendly and efficient. The staff are always happy to help, and they go out of their way to make sure that guests have a good time. Overall, the Modbury Hotel is a great place to go for a casual meal or drink with friends. It's also a good option for watching live sports or playing the pokies. Here is a summary of the pros and cons of the Modbury Hotel: Pros: Recently renovated, modern look Wide range of food options, including vegetarian and vegan dishes Reasonable prices Friendly and efficient service Cons: Can get busy! The gaming lounge can be noisy Overall, I would recommend the Modbury Hotel to anyone looking for a casual and affordable dining experience.

we didn't have a reservation but staff were happy to seat us (two adults) anyway. we were using an entertainment voucher which was "buy any main meal get a second main meal free" staff were happy to accommodate us and had no problem with the voucher. we were very happy with our meals. both of us got their seafood platter worth $38 regularly and they were amazing! great variety of seafood all cooked to perfection. I will be back even without a voucher it was great! salad and veg bar looked fresh and well maintained, veg was all cooked perfectly. we couldn't finish it all but gosh did we try. well done guys see you again soon.

Delicious cheesy garlic bread, great salad bar. I had the duck leg with Indonesian nasi goreng. The duck was nice but couldn’t eat The rice because it was super spicy and I can’t do spice. I’ve been to Bali a few times and the Nasi goreng over there isn’t spicy so I assumed this was going to be the same. Would be good to have an indication on the menu to say what meals are spicy etc The tropical sundae was quite tasty and had a great presentation. Would go back again

Booking online was easy enough — and that’s where the positives ended.

There were no dinner settings on our table — no cutlery, no napkins, no side plates, nothing. When I went to place our meal order, I wasn’t even given cutlery then. I noticed the menu said you could order via an app, but there was no QR code on the table and the venue couldn’t be found in the app at all.

I ordered drinks when I placed our meal order and was told they’d be brought to the table. Only the latte arrived. I had to go to the bar myself to get the Pepsi.

Then came the third trip to the bar — this time to ask for basic table settings. I was finally given cutlery, a napkin, and salt and pepper, but still no side plates.

Now, the meals.

I ordered a medium rump steak with Diane sauce on the side and garlic cream prawns on top — a surf and turf. My partner ordered a chicken schnitzel with double Diane sauce.

The rump steak, which cost over $40, was inedible. It wasn’t medium — it was well done, dry, and one of the fattiest cuts of meat I’ve ever been served. I didn’t eat it. I took it home in a container, and even my dog had trouble chewing it. The Diane sauce on the side was cold — not lukewarm, but stone cold.

My partner’s schnitzel didn’t come with the double Diane sauce as ordered. When I asked for it, the second serve of sauce that came out was completely different — thin, watery, and nothing like the thick, rich version that came with the meal.

To top it off, the menu on Google is completely wrong — it lists dishes that are no longer available, like the filet mignon, which is the whole reason we came in the first place. So not only were we misled, but we ended up paying for meals that were substandard and, in my case, barely edible.

For the price, the service, quality, and attention to detail were absolutely...

We have been coming to the Modbury hotel for dinner for a while now and the food and service has always been on point up until now. I'm not sure if there is a new chef, front and back of house change up or new management but the food was terrible 😞 We opted to share some plates instead of getting just a main each. The Bao buns we're not great but better than the Chorizo croquettes which were very doughy and very not well presented, the consistency was horrible. What surprised us was the Salt and Pepper chicken, which I've had many times before, was undercooked and the coating was gross 🤢 The new menu isn't as good as the old one. If there are new staff in the kitchen we suggest they go over the menu and familiarize themselves with it because there were missing items when our food came out. The kids fish and chips were slimy and there was no sauce to be seen on the plate. Oh! And could someone please pay a small amount of attention to sharpening the kids colouring pencils...they were all blunt! I'm not sure if there was a new manager there last night but if I got wind that a customer had complained and asked for a refund; I would have been over to their table to get the feedback but not this manager. We have to give props to the young gentleman we spoke to about getting a refund. He was great, you can see that he knows what's going on and he was happy to listen and give us a refund on the shared plate items. Unfortunately, we won't be back 😔 which is a shame because it used to be...
