You are entering this beautiful huge sliding door with an "OPEN" sign, foreseeing having an excellent meal, and you finding out that they "accepted their last customer for today." If it is so - remove that "OPEN" sign! Then, when I asked for a WiFi password to look around for open restaurants, they said that they don't let customers use it. Well, I was told that Adelaide is friendly to international travelers... I guess they were wrong. I got an anonymous reply to my review from "the owner", to whom I would like to say a few words: First of all, you are saying that I showed up after the last order was taken, so - explain me please how can I tell from the outside of your establishment if it is closing time, if there is no business hours sign displayed? In contrary to you, a responsible business owner would also use a "CLOSED" or "Sorry, we are CLOSED" sign and lock the door for incoming customers. So, you are very wrong about me having lack of knowledge about common business practices. Secondly, after I kindly asked for a suggestion which local restaurant might be open at that time, I got a negative answer. And only then I have asked for a permission to use your WiFi to find an open restaurant. Mentioning that I am an international traveler is not to get a special privileges but to explain that I don't have access to mobile internet yet and must rely on other people's advice, or I have to find an available WiFi. So, let's say that someone had approached me in my home city and have asked for a suggestion about a place to dine and I really don't know - then I would pull my cellphone and find it, despite the fact that it is not a paying customer. Thirdly, you had mentioned that I was mean, disregarding rules and was disrespectful - that is absolutely not true! What had actually happen, and I will repeat it the third time for you - I have entered an OPEN door and was refused service right away, then I had kindly asked for suggestion and was rejected, and lastly I had asked for a small assistance and was denied again. So, I simply left. Everything else is your, or your waitress fantasies. And lastly, you are giving me advice I didn't ask about my qualities, you don't know... Well, I will not fall down to such level and will not comment on that or give you advice back. Instead, I will mention that a respectfull business owner knows that "serving others" is not just "selling to paying customers". I wish you would have enough integrity to understand your mistakes...

In response to the reply from owner

I have to disagree with you. We have been there a couple of times with another family member who has allergies and does not eat and she has always been welcome to sit within the group.

The manager had set up a single table, with a single chair and was rude and demanding that 'no one sit near her so we can watch and make sure she doesn't eat'. That is just a disgusting way to treat any human. She was asked to move further away from her children and husband, and quite frankly embarrassed the business in her treatment.

I had called and advised there would be one adult out of 9 that would not be eating, the 'risk' of her eating and not paying was non-existant. There was no need for her to be treated that way. Let me start by saying, I have loved this restaurant for many years but tonight really ruined that.

After calling to book a table for a larger group, I advised that one adult would not be eating due to food allergies/intolerances. It was absolutely no problem for the gentleman I spoke to and he booked us in.

When we arrived tonight, there was a long table set up and then an extra table with one chair, separate to everyone. I connected the table, food was being bought out and all was well until the manager, Mae came over and told us we had to have the table separated so they could 'see her not eating' . She was rude, completely out of line and despite there being absolutely no food in front of said guest at a +$400 plus table, she pressed the issue.

I am disgusted that they would expect someone to sit completely separate from a group dinner and be treated like they were unwelcome, like an outcast despite a phone call earlier to advise the situation. It was handled poorly and unfortunately, we won't...

This would be the worst Japanese Restaurant I've ever been to . Atmosphere bad very noisy ,tablet ordering, NO description of what's the food made of not everyone knows what Japanese words mean . We had someone on our table of 20 PEOPLE , ONE HIGHLY ALLERGIC to seafood nearly caused a very big problem he would have been hospitized. Food dumped at table by rude waitress not even asking who ordered it,some food dumped at the wrong end of our 6mt table. Menu very vague our friend allergic had seafood balls dropped in front of him thought it it was his pork dish. Lucky one of our guests had the same dish and warned him just before he was about to put in in his mouth. ACTING THIS WAY YOU COULD KILL SOMEONE IHOPE THEY HAVE GOOD INSURANCE. Hint for the management throw those stupid tables away especially for large tables, Give proper description of what each dish with picture. Train your wait staff not dump food at the end of a long table. Stop timing diners time ,and teach you waiter to be be knowledgeable and courtesy to your patrons last night was a terrible experience our fried celebrating her birthday. Rushing us out when half the food had not arrived and no one felt it was a relaxing night of celebration. You pushing cost you most of the drink orders we would of had lost your profit from drinks. I suggest you you take your self to Otami Restaurant and see a good well organized all you can eat Japanese restaurant with...

Modern Japanese A unique experience. You can order al a carte or $50 all you can eat. Drinks additional. I was a little sceptical with the variety and quality for an all you can eat menu. However, I was pleasantly surprised. You order via the tablet on your table. There is a great selection of sushi, noodles and dessert items. You can order in stages via the tablet and continue to order as you feel the need. There is a time limit of ordering of 90mins Friday and Saturday. Tonight was busy, yet dishes came out in a timely manner. The freshness of each dish certainly stood out, even the fried items were nicely cooked golden but not over cooked. I believe if you have dishes ordered that aren’t consumed you will be charged on top of the flat fee, however we finished all the dishes order, so can’t confirm. Desserts are quite small which is nice as you can then order a second or something different. Banana Brûlée, chocolate moose and green tea jelly were the stand outs. Drinks were are well priced beer from $12; spirits $9-11, cocktails from $12. If you’re lucky enough to be celebrating a birthday the robot will deliver your dessert. See video. Overall a generous spread at great value. We calculated our total if we were to order al a carte and the food came to $214 (we paid $150).

Mugen really has potential. It's got a very nice looking venue and located in a very accessible part of the city. The food and especially the sashimi, is quite good for an all-you-can-eat restaurant and I found the staff to be generally friendly, although nothing noteworthy. However, it has a lot of room for improvement. Our orders often took very long to arrive. You would think a plate of sashimi or a scoop of ice cream wouldnt take too long but we'd often find ourselves waiting 20 to 30 mins for our orders and it wasnt even that busy. Whether this is a sign of being short staffed or something else, I wouldnt know but be prepared to wait a lot for your food. Also $40 in general for the price of all you can eat seems to be on the higher end, especially when there doesnt seem to be too many choices as far as sushi or sashimi goes. Some more chicken/veggie options ir a lower price would certainly help the experience. As an added touch of inconvenience, they dont let you do split payment which always causes everyone to have to later figure out payments amongst each other. I hope this place can take the feedback and make the experience even better. I'd love to pay this place another visit then.
