Having eaten much Turkish food in Istanbul, Melbourne and Sydney, unfortunately this place was a quite disappointing. I believe it’s one of few Turkish restaurants in Adelaide (if not the only one?) so understandably there’s not much to compare it with. I think we can all agree that Turkish cuisine is amazing! The dips were my favourite - they gave us a lot of options and I loved trying all the different flavours. The vegetables and pilaf for the mains were cooked well. This is why I didn’t give 1 or 2 stars for food.
However, when I pay a lot of money to a Turkish grill place I expect the meat to be phenomenal. And sadly I was not happy with the mixed grill plate I ordered - especially the meatballs (I see someone else commented on this previously as well). They were a weird grey colour (ie not brown) and the texture was blobby and absolutely weird. Tbh, I found them inedible. I had one bite and left the rest. It seemed like they used prepackaged /canned meat or something instead of proper mince. Or perhaps they over processed AND over cooked them. Honestly I can make better meatballs at home with Coles mince as a non Turkish. The chicken was over cooked and the lamb was just ok.
The service was ok, the girls were nice enough but it was nothing special.
The vibe was also a bit basic - we were surrounding in those cheesy mosaic tiles/lamps… ok so we’re not in actual Turkey, but it felt very cliched. Having said that, there were lots of people having a good time at the restaurant. 🤷🏻♀️
Not trying to be nasty at all, just trying to give genuine feedback about my experience.. Please check the cook on the meat and change the meatballs!
And look, it was fairly expensive for the portions as well.. Maybe Glenelg (being close to beach) has expensive commercial leases but I’ve paid less at places where the meat is absolutely beautiful every time and the menus have a LOT more on it, and bigger portions. Sorry to give negative feedback but the meat was probably the worst Turkish food I’ve eaten,...
