Not a local, but frequently in town visiting my immediate and extended family. This morning, I visited this cafe around 9ish to grab some food ahead of my road trip back home. While I was browsing the food cabinet, a female customer, sitting with her male companion, made an unwelcome and mocking comment about my outfit. Their laughter and subsequent departure left me feeling quite uncomfortable.
Further adding to the disappointment was the quality of the food. I ordered two croissants, a bottled juice, and an orange and almond cake. Regrettably, the croissants were doughy and not fresh.
This unexpected and disheartening incident was not just about an unwarranted fashion critique; it was about the lack of courtesy and respect within the cafe's atmosphere. It's disappointing that customers feel so entitled to publicly shame others which creates an unwelcoming environment.
While I understand that cafes can't control the behaviour of their patrons, the overall experience was tarnished by both the unpleasant interaction and the subpar food quality. It's essential for cafes to foster a welcoming environment for all, and unfortunately, this visit left much...
Read moreI ordered two takeaway coffees and three sandwiches: a ham cheese and tomato toastie, a ham cheese and tomato croissant, and a Reuben.
The coffee was good, but it arrived a full five minutes before the first of the sandwich orders arrived, and It was another ten minutes before the other two sandwiches were ready.
The big issue besides that time delay was that the Reuben was absolutely not a Reuben. A Reuban is corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing (or Thousand Island dressing), grilled between slices of rye bread. What I had was a white bread Turkish roll with ham, salami, hot English mustard, and pickles. While not entirely expecting a great sandwich, I certainly was not expecting that.
For a small venue, I'd expect chatter to permeate the air. Or perhaps music. Ristretto had neither, so I'm rating the atmosphere on the lower end, too.
If not for the quality of the actual coffees, this would have been an unfortunate 2...
Read moreRead some great reviews so I went to taste the coffee. ( and 4 others in town ) Cafe is very small and at 7.30am it was quiet. Lovely staff member was super friendly, and coffee was made so promptly, surprisingly fast I was concerned. Coffee is good, very enjoyable. we all have different taste buds. I read more reviews and to see the 1* review from a Haley Jane was so disappointing being mocked about her fashion choice by customers and feeling emotionally bad is not cool but to then transfer those feeli gs into a review that can damage a business is just poor form. Ristretto does not have a cozy atmosphere that can easily be created in a...
