东记 Vietnam Corner BBQ Restaurant — Restaurant in Brisbane City

We made a booking for this restaurant for 6.30pm on a Friday night. Gee I'm glad we did, it gets very busy soon after that. After driving around two or three times looking for a park I opted to drive to the upper level carpark where there was heaps of parking. We were seated at a table in front of the BBQ preparation area so were entertained by the all the goings on as they skillfully chopped away on BBQ pork, Soya Chicken and my fav Duck.. I'll mention at this point if your going to show your chefs at work to the public maybe they shouldn't wipe the sweat from their face with their bare hands and then grab half a chook and cut it up. But hey this is the unofficial Chinatown of Brissy.. The setting was more a large Asian Cafe style. Noise levels when it was full was OK. You could still hear each over talk without to many problems. Service was very good and fast. A pleasant surprise was the sign BYO welcomed 'No Corkage' and still they provided clean wine glass and a ice filled wine bucket. There were plenty of good choices on the menu. We ordered 4 different starters and 4 mains. This fed 4 adults and 3 teenagers with some leftovers. All our meals were very good which I have found in the past shows that any choice from the menu should have the same result. So the big question I always ask people is 'Would I go back?'. Yes I would. Good quality food, Good service and reasonable prices. I wouldn't good there for a nice romantic evening with my wife. It's not that sort of restaurant. Oh and they did a roaring trade in take-away meals another...

First thing to say is this is not a Vietnamese restaurant, this is a Cantonese restaurant. As such, don’t come expecting a western style of table service. They are a high volume, low cost restaurant and their goal is to get you in and out as fast as possible. Very standard for Sunnybank.

The menu here is extensive like most Cantonese style restaurants filled mostly with classic Chinese dishes. Nothing special to note here, the food is very traditional and you can expect it to taste fairly good as the chefs are all old sifus. The real highlight of this restaurant is the bbq menu. They offer a large range of bbq items which are all very reasonably priced. Because the bbq items are all ready to eat, they are all made and served fairly quickly however wok items will take a while to come out especially in busy times.

The reason I only give 3 stars is because this restaurant seems to have a repeating problem of not being able to serve tables food all together, and not being able to manage high volume table orders without mistakes happening as seen in the other low reviews. For a place as competitive as Sunnybank, it should do better. This is most likely because Chinese style kitchens operate without an expediter and dishes are simply sent out when they are finished. They need a better table order system in order to make sure chefs can cook food for the same tables at the same time.

Best way to experience this restaurant is to take away their bbq items and eat it at home, as the venue is also...

tucked in a little corner of the car park in Sunnybank Plaza is @vietnam_corner ! it was my first time visiting and as surprised as i was at how busy they were, i was even more surprised to find out they actually do both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes!🤩🥳hence, don’t judge a book by its cover or in this case a restaurant by its name…👀🤣

🍲beef noodle pho 💛tofu soup with crab ✨stir fried lotus roots with black fungus 🦑salt and pepper squid 🔥poached fish in chilli oil

the beef pho was actually not too bad i need to mention how MASSIVE the portion sizing is here too! the bowls of noodles were never ending🤩🤣i loved the stir fried lotus root🥹🤧i kept munching away on this crunchy dish i highly recommend it!🥰

the salt and pepper squid was so delicious! fun fact, you can choose from a couple flavours when you order this, including salted egg!🤤🤩the poached fish was super flavorful, the oil was much thicker than other restaurants but in turn it gave it a stronger taste!🐟🔥

conclusion, i do recommend checking out @vietnam_corner they have a crazy variety of dishes at quite affordable prices! don’t expect mind blowing food but it was homey tasting and...
