Zhangliang Malatang is a newer malatang restaurant in sunnybank and it wasn’t the best. I expected better but it was quite disappointing.
From the food to the price i don’t think it’s worth it. Typically I eat David’s hotpot but I wanted to try Zhangliang Malatang and I expected really good.
Firstly the area is quite spacious nicely decorated nothing wrong. But it’s pretty quiet other than me there were only 2 other people. That may have been the first warning sign. The variety of toppings pretty good same as any other malatang. But the other toppings that weren’t veggies kinda looked old and not very good and a little brown. The variety is slightly bigger than other malatang places I’ve been too. The variety is nice but the flavouring I do not likes. It’s more like it’s quite bland and not very tasty or has enough flavouring. The rice cakes for me was a big issue, I was unaware they would have a filling this filling made it taste sweet and not good. Imaging eating spicy then sweet. Yeah.. not a good combo. Other than the rice cake being sweet the rest of the food was good.
The pricing of it is not worth it , a small portion costed me $25 while if I went to other malatangs it would be around $15 or less . Def not worth it. The soups are quite thick specifically the tomato, if you prefer thinner soups prob don’t get it. I hoped for a good experience but came out quite disappointed .
The workers were nice and have good customer services but this place is definitely not worth it unless you want to try it just don’t get the stirfy...
Read moreThis is a place that you pay for your food by weight. Various types of raw food eg meat, vegetables, noodles, seafood, etc. are on display for customers to pick and choose. The food is then weighed at the counter. The price is calculated on the basis of food per 100 grams (there's a minimum of 400g per order). The customer may then choose one out of 4 types of soup on offer and the food would be cooked and served with the chosen soup. It has the flexibility of choosing whatever food items that are on display and in what quantity that the customer would like to have. Also there's a range of condiments that the customer can use to supplement the soup. The problem with this type of service is that all food items are basically just cooked by boiling regardless of the different textures. The flavour comes mainly from the soup, which in my opinion is not good enough for many types of food one would put in. My experience is that the food wasn't very tasty, unless probably one chooses the spicy ones. The good point about this restaurant is that it has two vegan choices of soup, namely, tomato...
Read moreWe have been a loyal customer here for over two years and feeling so disappointed that this will be our last time dining here. The soup base is always delicious but their hygiene is QUESTIONABLE. This time, we sat close to the kitchen, only to see the cook using her bare hands to put our selections in the pot. Prior to that, the cook scratched her head, picked her nose, wiped the bench (we never saw her wash her hands).
Especially when handling food, it’s a decency to use gloves or even tongs. Furthermore, their “cash only” policy to get loyalty stamps was very frustrating. By the time we were able to redeem our 10% off, they would always say “next time”. We can overlook the small things and try to see the positives of the business but laziness to provide safe food handling is unacceptable and a gamble for food poisoning. This showcases their attitude as an employee there:...
