We have heard some unsavoury stories about this Restaurant but a Group of friends are meeting there so we just went along. As it turns out, it wasnt so bad.
It was a Weekend Lunch and they are not so busy. The place wasnt packed and we like the fact that they have big round tables. The older ladies who took our orders are very nice, but the young waiters who brought the dishes looked like they'd rather be in bed playing computer games or something :-)
We ordered the 2-persons Special which includes Peking Duck (Skin and Fried Rice with Crakers). This has to be for more 4-6 persons as it also comes with Tofu/Fish Claypot (Medium/Big size) , 6 Big Scallops with Glass Noodle. They are all very delicious.
We also ordered Steamed Fish (Live Perch), Truffle Seafood Fried Rice (as we didnt know the Duck Fried Rice would be that big a portion), and Belacan KangKung. We had to order another 6 Scallops as the Set only contains 6 Scallops and their minimum order is 6. As it turns out this is more expensive than the fish but given the large size of the Scallop, we cant really complain.
The Steam Fish was very fresh and cooked well, not too salty.
The Vege KangKung is a bit overcooked and too much liquid but passable.
Everyone's surprised favourite is the Seafood Truffle Fried Rice. It's really yummy and generous in the Seafood.
The Small Surprise is we were charged Tea/Desert/Service of $2/each as the Set only provide for 2-persons.
Just a word of caution about parking: It's pretty limited as there are many restaurants and cafe there....
Read moreSurprisingly big resturant. Dining area for 10 or more pax per table is partitioned to another section. Staff were efficient and polite. Definitely insufficient room for parking. Roadside parking or take a short walk. A soup entrée (FOC) was served while we wait for our orders. Dishes were of good size. Sweet & sour pork, brinjal with mince pork were my favourite. The sour sauce was quite authentic, unlike most places that just added colour.. Flavours were good. Meat platter has choice of 3 or 4 meat: char Siew was yum, a little on the fatty side with char flavour. Siew yuk and duck has crackling skin. I felt that on a platter like that, the duck bishop’s nose should be omitted, as the sampling pieces are limited. We also ordered a spinach with century egg and salted egg soup. There was generous amts of spinach and garlic. A little more soup would have been good for our group. Fried tofu with XO sauce was delicious but the salt and pepper squid that followed seemed to be the same combo. Fried squid was abit over done. Cutlery set was nice to use. Overall, quite a pleasant first visit. Oh, there was red bean with sago dessert and orange pieces on the house. For the large dining area, group events would be ideal, however one will have to contend with the limited parking space available. $20/pax dinner is quite a good feed....
Read moreCame to try out 9 seafood, a new HK restaurant in Pinelands. Surprisingly quite business for a weekday lunch, mostly Chinese customers. We ordered the roast duck rice, beef brisket soup noodles and combination fried noodles. The serving sizes were quite generous, most dishes that we ordered were around $15. You'll definitely be full and might have trouble finishing it if you're a small eater. Roast duck skin was crispy but the meat didn't have enough flavour like the ones you get from Wellington. On the other hand, the brisket was tender but soup lacked flavour, and noodles weren't Al dente. Combination fried noodles was alright but the BBQ pork had a funny taste. Hokkien fried rice and pork ribs were also very good. Overall, customer service was good and meals came out quickly. Definitely worth a try.
(Edited) Came back a second time for lunch and ordered black bean beef noodles, offal soup noodles, egg tarts and quail. Really satisfied with everything. Black bean noodles was a bit salty but otherwise very satisfied. Egg tarts and quail is definitely...
