I come here regularly with my partner and we have always enjoyed the fantastic food, most notably the lamb spicy dry flat noodle which would come out in a big dish. It wasn't just good, it was great! The kind of thing you start eating and find you can't stop, and say mmmm as you eat it.
This evening we visited again and tried to order the same dish, but it was not on the menu. Now it is just listed as "spicy dry flat noodle" and then you select lamb (or chicken etc). It was a smaller serving, but cheaper. The dish turned up and I have to say it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Cheaper cut of lamb, different taste. Everything had a different taste. The dumplings were cheaper as well, dry, not as juicy or flavourful.
All the staff has changed, the usual guy who would serve us is gone. The staff now speak Mandarin to each other whereas the old staff spoke Uyghur. Seems like the place has changed owners? ..and all staff? ..and obviously the chef as well? We won't be coming back.
It is a sad, sad night for us in Sunnybank. Tonight we realise Sunnybank has lost something really special. If anyone knows where the old chef went, hopefully to another Uyghur restaurant somewhere, PLEASE...
Read moreUnpleasant experience especially due to the rude short haired cashier We came here for lunch yesterday and clearly said "dine in" at the counter. After paying, my husband even told the cashier that we would sit at table 1, and she responded that she understood.
When our food arrived, it was served in takeaway containers. Confused, we politely asked about it, and the short haired cashier immediately snapped back with an aggressive tone and repeated eye rolls, insisting "You said takeaway"over and over again, with an attitude that was completely uncalled for.
Really? If we wanted takeaway, why would we say where we were sitting? Why would my husband clearly say "we'll be at table 1" after paying? And you responded, “Got it.” So who’s confused here?
That look she gave condescending and hostile was completely unnecessary. Not sure where the confidence comes from, but if she is the owner, then that’s unfortunate. And if she’s not, the owner might want to know their front of house staff is single-handedly ruining the customer experience.
The food was fine, but the attitude? Absolutely ruined the whole visit. One star for making a simple lunch feel like a...
Read moreLet's get to the negatives first. I dislike the ordering system via the QR code. For some odd reason, when scanning a dish, it is already pre-populated. It was my first time dining here, so when finalising the order, it didn't let me proceed further into payment, nor were there any confirmation that my order has been received. Had to confirm with a staff member.
The positives; the food was fantastic. The noodles I ordered felt and tasted handmade. They had amazing chew and a consistent texture. The flavour was spicy but not mind-numbing. It was perfect for me. The best way to describe it was a tingling sensation. I wished the menu could be a bit more descriptive. It didn't state my snake bean and beef noodle dish was spicy, but it came spicy. I didn't mind it. The food took roughly 30mins post order to come out. It was 5:30pm on a Wednesday. The food is average $21 here but portion...
