Hawthorne Bakery — Restaurant in Brisbane City

I am writing not for the yummy bread, not for the lovely service, not for the ice cold drinks on the hot day that was today. (Aloe vera for the win!) I don't even write about the meat pie my son always loves. I am moved to public discourse for one thing. The curry. W.o.w! It tastes authentically made by the hand of someone who has made this dish lovingly for years. Thats when you know you've eaten something special. When it feels as though you've stepped into another world and been politely invited to their table and this is a family favourite dish they prepare for themselves and you have the honour of also enjoying.

I dont know who made this meal I just feel so lucky to have spied it and given it a go. A curry from a bakery, what could go wrong?

Nothing. Not a thing. It was oh. so. right.

A true pleasure that I worry now, as I write this, will I encourage its scarcity as they only seem to sell a few at a time.... Leftovers from their actual lunch? Maybe...

All I really want to say is a resounding thankyou.

It's absolutely delicious and I will be back for it again very very soon. And a loaf of bread. Because, we ALWAYS need one of those toodont we!?

Hawthorne Bakery is situated on Riding Road, which sees a lot of traffic and offers very limited street parking.

Set back from the cafe next door, Hawthorne Bakery serves up typical bakery goodies along with some specialty items like made-to-order banh mi with alternative fillings. While the presentation of the ordered items may not have been the best, they certainly delivered on taste.

The available seating at the front is limited but provides a covered area; however, the tables could use some attention as they felt quite tacky to the touch.

The staff are wonderful - patient, helpful, and friendly. Given the consistent stream of customers, it’s clear that this place is quite popular and reasonably priced for the location.

Our local baker, Nelson Dang, is an absolute gem and a true pillar of the community. Not only does he consistently deliver delicious, top-quality baked goods, but he also goes above and beyond to help others and make things happen behind the scenes. Whether it’s stepping in to support a local event, serving and upselling customers with a friendly smile, or lending a hand when no one’s looking, he does it all with generosity and heart.
