Overview: Indian Room (I.R.) is a new Indian restaurant located in the heart of West End's dining and entertainment precinct. It's situated at the busy intersection of Melbourne, Boundary, Mollison, and Browning Streets. Food: My wife and I dined at I.R. on a Sunday night in August and ordered a selection of dishes. We started with papadums and mint chutney, followed by samosas with tamarind chutney, lamb saag, and amritsari fish. We also had naan bread and a large bowl of Basmati rice, and to drink, a couple of Kingfisher Ales and a mango lassi. We were impressed with the freshness and taste of the food. The samosas had a soft filling and a crispy coating, while the fish was succulent and tender. The standout dish was the lamb saag, with tender meat cubes in a creamy spinach sauce. The naan bread and fluffy basmati rice were perfect accompaniments. The presentation was neat and attention to detail was evident. We finished with a delicious gulab jamun dessert, served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. Service: Despite the restaurant being busy, the service was flawless. The friendly owner/manager made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and our booked table was ready and waiting for us. Orders were taken quickly, and drinks, entrees, and main courses came out in the correct order. Both the owner and his assistant were polite, efficient, and pleasant, and our evening ran smoothly without any hitches. Atmosphere: When we arrived at around 6:30 pm, the restaurant was fairly empty, but it soon filled up, giving it a lively, fun, and energetic vibe. The interior design is modern and stylish, with brown, yellow, and white colour tones, comfortable upholstered seating, and large tables. It's spacious and airy, making for good acoustics, and most tables have a view out onto the bustling streetscape of the West End. The overall ambience is casual, laid back, and relaxed, making it a perfect place to enjoy a fun night out with friends or family. Cost: Our bill came to $106, which included a couple of drinks, a starter, two main courses, rice, naan bread, papadums, a few sauce bowls, and a gulab jamun dessert. We booked through the Eat Club and saved about 19%, bringing the bill down to a more reasonable $86. While that may seem high due to hyperinflation, we still found it to be fair value for the quality of food and service. Toilets: There are no toilets in the restaurant itself, so you need to grab a key from the manager and head outside to the adjacent apartment complex, where you will find a couple of toilets in the car park. While it may sound inconvenient, the toilets were relatively easy to find and reasonably clean and well-maintained. Parking: Parking can be a bit tricky in this area, but we usually head straight for the nearby Soda Factory car park, where you can get two hours free and even after that, it's quite reasonable at about $3 per hour. Street parking near the Hotel West End is sometimes available. Summary: Overall, we had a fabulous evening at I.R., and everything ran smoothly from booking and paying via the Eat Club app, to ordering, food quality, service, and ambience. Toilets and parking can be a bit of a challenge, but they are not insurmountable obstacles, and we're definitely up for a return visit.

Started off strong with some fabulous appetisers that tasted very fresh! For mains, my table ordered the smoked butter chicken (super basic but it was easily my favourite), the lamb saag (perfectly cooked tender lamb with hella flavour), the palak paneer (I was told it was a little more watery than what my friends were used to but otherwise still great), the paneer masala (was so freaking good 🤌🏼), and the spicy prawn curry (please don't underestimate this one, the spice level was insanely hot lol - but delicious if you're into spicy food). I wish we got to try more but it was very quickly more food than we could handle, especially with the naan, rice and raita. The mango lassi had mixed reviews among my table, with some saying it could have been sweeter and others liking how it was, but the rose lassi was unanimously delicious. As was the two other drinks we ordered, which I've unfortunately forgotten the name of 😅 The presentation was excellent, every dish looked stunning! As for the dessert, the gulab jamun is a MUST 🤌🏼 (if you're not into sweet stuff then I don't recommend but c'mon it's gulab jamun it's GONNA be sweet as heck) the parle g ice-cream sandwiches were very cute - I do wish they had more ice-cream in them but the nostalgia from them alone was lowkey worth it and those biscuits are always a win. The twist on the ras malai was not a crowd favourite as my favourite part about that dessert is the squishy sponge soaked in milk, but this one was different from the norm, true to its description on the menu. It was frozen and similar to ice-cream but not quite. It was good but if you're expecting ras malai, you'd probably be a little disappointed. Overall the Indian Room is a great place to get great tasting food, exceptional service, and beautifully presented dishes!

At first glance, the Chicken Biryani looked promising, but as I started eating, I was disappointed. It was incredibly bland, lacking even the mildest hint of spice. I felt like I had paid $25 just to eat plain basmati rice, and to make matters worse, a few of the chicken pieces weren’t fully cooked. On the bright side, the South Village Chicken Gravy, Lasooni Palak Paneer, and Wheat Paratha were all really good. These dishes had great flavor and were enjoyable, but they couldn’t save the overall experience. The service, however, was a major letdown. Even though it was a busy Saturday evening, the restaurant clearly hadn’t planned for the rush. It took the service team a frustrating 20 minutes just to bring me a pair of cutlery. To top it off, once the food arrived, there wasn’t even a proper plate for me to serve my biryani. I ended up using a small plate that was far too inadequate for a main course. It didn’t help that the restaurant, which seats around 50, had only five waiters struggling to keep up. Overall, the portion sizes were small considering the prices. The only thing that arrived quickly was the bill. Would I recommend this place? I’m not sure. Would I come back? Unfortunately, no.

The Indian Room exceeded our expectations with its excellent food, attentive service, and welcoming atmosphere. Despite arriving late for our reservation, the staff went out of their way to seat us quickly, setting a positive tone for the evening. The food was phenomenal—fresh and flavourful, while the service was prompt, made even better by the addition of a TV to keep us entertained while we waited. What truly stood out was the manager, Ricky‘s, genuine care, checking in with us multiple times to ensure everything was perfect. This personal touch elevated the experience, making it clear that customer satisfaction is a priority. If you’re planning to visit at night, a reservation is a must, as the restaurant is deservedly popular. For a dining experience that combines amazing food with exceptional service, the Indian Room is a fantastic choice.

Well, sudden plans turned out to be the best. Went to city to roam around, and thought to have tea. First, visited cafe but then heart said, let's have a tea. So, that gave me idea to visit Indian room. Walked 19 minutes from south bank and reached to West end. The heart of Farmers who sells fresh veggies. This time, it's time to have tea. Indian room, just located on the edge of a road, and provide you a pleasant food. Ordered masala tea, and mathura wale kachori aloo. Well, tea is first for every party. First sip of tea seems watery. Said to the owner, he was such a nice person with kind gesture. He said, he will bring another one. He made a nice tea with ginger and this time it was yummy 😋. Dill Khush kr ditta... Amazing experience. You should go and have it once.

The ghost chilli curry is delicious, it has a slow building burn and though I'm seasoned with spice I do admit to faltering toward the end and needing to dip into some of the delicious Gulab Singh cocktail (large and refreshing) and the Chef's Special Naan (which was sweet, cheesy and garlicy). Fantastic friendly and helpful service. We had a selection of small plates and the street appetizers and they were so beautifully presented, it was like eating artworks with wonderful flavours. We saw a smoked butter chicken come out and it looked very fun, though didn't try it ourselves. I'll come back to Brisbane for this again for sure!
